What ever happened to the system that !ARCADE! was supposed to make a couple years ago? I haven't heard about it in a long time.

I know it was canned, but what were the reasons? I remember that there were even pictures posted before. How far along was it?

Well, I don't really remember how far ago it was. But I think it was about it being to expensive and not many people were having all the "Hush Hush" about it so that's why it was canned.

What exactly was this new machine supposed to do? A neo/phantom hybrid or something?

It was a hybrid Neo-Geo system that could play both MVS and NGH carts (it had 2 cartridge slots). The system was supposed to come bundled with 2 PSOne-like game pads and an MVS bios chip. Pictures of this system were printed in the premier issue of Go! Magazine – it was a promotional piece for some contest that never came to fruition (Go! Magazine folded after 2 issues, so the contest never happened).

In retrospect, the AES 2 system would have been a great piece of hardware. It would have been expensive, but you would have had the best of both worlds (i.e. MVS and home) without the hassles.

NICE. Too bad no one will pick up on the project. I'd love to see this exist.

Is it possible to replicate the graphics chips SNK used??

I am not a hardware expert by any means, but one of the things SNK touted about their hardware was their custom SNK pro chips, which I understand to be graphics chips.

I too think it is a great idea. I was just wondering if the project was initially constructed with the idea that existing parts would be used to create the AES 2, versus actually producing new parts.

Great concept though!! buttrock

Actually, it was over and done with after one issue. The second issue exists only in PDF format, unless that is, someone bothered to print the file! :D

I told my friends I had the full run of the magazine; it didn't take them long to figure out there weren't many issues. :)

I would have been even COOLER if they managed to add an expansion for HNG64 carts, and Neo Cds....

Wishful thinking.
