A list of the hardest Neo Geo fighters

While roaming the forums today, I began thinking about the hardest Neo Geo fighting games ever made. I then told myself, self, let's make a list of the Neo Geo fighters that are just unbearably hard. I figure this could be a good guide to anyone getting into the Neo fighting scene. What we should be looking for here are the games that aren't just hard, but are so insanely difficult that it the makes the game feel more like a chore to play than actual fun. I'll start the list with my own personal experiences with Neo fighters:

Art of Fighting- stiff controls and relentless AI.

Art of Fighting 2- same as the first except even harder.

Samurai Shodown 3- amazing graphics and sound, but the AI once again destroys what could have been an amazing fighter.

Fatal Fury Special- one of my all time favorite Neo fighters, but even I have to question the insanely difficult AI at times.

Ummm, ya know, Vs. play is pretty important to fighting games too. I'm certainly not interested in playing the CPU all day.

anyway, back to the topic, hardest fighter has got to be Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer. There is just no way to beat the Platonic Twins with any character other than Shaia.

Well, which difficult have you set as default?

Easy
Normal
MVS
or Hard... :)

I always play on MVS[4] or harder...
The hardest fighter against CPU is SS3 IMO.

KoF '94 - BALLS hard when you get to Rugal!
AoF 2 - I agree with you there brotha, no ?s asked.

Kizuna Encounter - Easy up to the King Lion, but throw-your-controller hard on K. Lion and the last boss.

Ninja Masters - Tricky, but not impossible.
Samurai Shodown II - Once you get to the 5th fight, watch out..
Samurai Shodown III - Damn those counter %s...

I have played KOF 94 since 1995. I put WAY over 200$ into my local MVS, and I've since bought the AES version, which I've played like mad. I've still never beaten it with any team. I don't find SS2 too difficult. As for AOF2, I repeat someone's quote that it's "2" hard; I had to almost force myself to play it yesterday. AOF isn't hard at all: You can beat the whole game (essentially) with jump kicks.

Yeah, I agree, AoF2 is one of the hardest fighting game.
Other candidates are Samurai 3, AoF 1, Ninja Masters

As for the easiest: Tekkens (even "hardest" is not hard enough), KoFs (except the boss), Street Fighters.

Yes, I think KoFs are easy, except for the boss. I usually used cheap moves to beat them ;)

If you think SS3 is hard, you need to work on your defense skills. I think SS3 is kinda easy, but thats just me. Its A LOT more realistic than this "I can punch and slash you a million times and you wont die" shit.

Just my opinion, and you know how common those are...

kof 94 I didnt find too hard, nor ss2 - until you get to cheap ass Mizuki, although she can be beaten if you know how...

aof2 is stupidly hard though, and greg is right about King Lion in Kizuna - I hate that guy!!! Some of the most stupidly cheap bosses ever are in Kabuki Klash though - anyone else find that?

King of Fighters 95 is super easy. Don't assume I suck at KOF cause I haven't beaten '94.

why do people think Ninja Masters is so hard? The game is a pushover, with the exception of getting Kamui on the higher stages. Most of the opponents just let you do combos on them for free all day long.

Howdy, I'm new (or at least new again) to the whole Neo scene and this thread has got me asking, do MVS games have difficulty settings? How come I never saw a difficulty choice at the arcade? Or is that only on AES and CD games?

if you're just playing at the arcade on a game you don't own, of course you have no control over the difficulty setting. If you do own the game or have access to the inside of the machine, you can go to the soft dips menu by pushing the Test mode button (if the machine has one) or by powering on with Dip Switch 1 down. There you can change the difficulty, which in nearly every case ranges from Level-1 to Level-8. Almost all games default to Level-4, with the exception of some earlier games (NAM-1975 is Level-5 I believe).

Use cheap Shoto fireball patterns and you'll blaze through SS III (I do!). SS III's main pain in the ass is Haohmaru. Block a slide, eat a super uppercut for counter attacking. BS!

I miss the good old days when if a slide was blocked, you knew your opponent's ass was yours.

The background dodges make it a hell of alot easier to avoid attacks in SS III than the rolls from SS II.

The AI in Samurai Shodown III is difficult, but it's super cool at the same time. The computer almost always capitalizes on your mistakes, and you have to do the same for "him". I remember one time though a threw a power blade (correct name? Galford's projectile) and the computer actually absorbed it - I thought my cart was broken or something.
