Okay this has probably been done before, but does anybody else find it really annoying that the voice actors in just about every fighter ever made are all Japanesse? If a character comes from Japan then fine, and I accept that if a move has a Japanesse name because it's a Japanesse art then maybe it makes sense to use a Japanesse voice actor, but characters of other nationalities speaking in Japanesse, or even having crud Engrish winning phrases and taunts, really annoys me. If a character is supposed to be Italian then I expect him to sound Italian and use Italian names for his moves. I don't expect him to turn around and jabber something in Japanesse when he's won a fight. Take Ken from SF for example, I accept he's going to shout 'hadoken' and not 'fireball' (although actually in the original SF he would shout 'burn fire!' in engrish), but he doesn't even sound remotely American.

Just thought I'd get that off my chest.

I hear you Spectre I too would like fighting games to sport the correct language voice acting for the characters respective country. However, I don't see this becoming remedied anytime soon because it's Japan who makes 85% of all games that kick ass (especially in the fighting arena) and as such they're not going to send people out to hire other nationalities to do a couple of sound files with the correct language. The best we could hope for would be for the various companies (like Capcom, Playmore etc.) is to hire those Aussies who dubbed the Macross: Do You Remember Love Movie back in 87 for educational purposes and released in several different forms.

What I mean by this (and I'm not putting anyone from Australia down BTW as I have several droogs from down under) is that maybe in the future some already established voice acting studio like the one mentioned would step up to the plate and record these small files. But I don't see them going out of their way (from Japan) to to it. Sucks balls I know, because the correct languages for differing characters would make the game all the sweeter.

Y'know, some of them do try...listen to Guile in CvS2..."Sonic Boahh", "Rice Barrel" or even "Some Are Sold"...a bit gritty, but it's there :)

I hear what you're saying stormy, but given the attention to detail that goes into fighters these days, and the presentation=profability equation (just look at CvS), you would have thought some bright developer would have realised by now that polishing a good game off with appropriate voice acting is going to make it all the more popular.

The video game industry has an international market and imo it's pretty short sighted to have the 'lets just cater for the biggest market and the others can stuff it' attitude that so many game developers have. Gamers all over the world are far more likely to stick their dollar/pound/franc/krona/peso/ruble/whatever into a fighter when their country is represented by a character who looks and sound as though he comes from where he's supposed to come from.

Fact is videogames are, and were at the most, a Japanese form of entertainement.

From the Japanese point of view, all Western public is just leeching some of their internal products.

SNK ot tops. Western versions of home games just always suked just because they usually didn't give even a shit to all us western fanboys.

So, games are like movies.

Do you aspect an Englih charater in a Japanese movie, for Japanese audience, will speak Jaanee or English?

It's nothing about reality.

Just accept it.

I 100% agree with you my man. I have "DOA3" for Xbox, and this shit reeks of all japanese dialogue. Americans, Germans, whatever the nationality is, they fucking speak japanese. Games like "Onimusha" kick ass in japanese though. Would'nt it be nice if the KOF's non asian people (Ikari team especially) spoke their true language? (Friends don't let friends do 2K1.)

Japanese can rarely produce good English(or other) voices. Besides mostly ALL fighting action battle words sound better in Japanese.
As far a other Asian languages like Chinese or Korean that would be cool.
But as said before it depends on what dicipline that chara practices. Most are Asian martial arts.

Not to mention those funny German - English Mixes (Kaiser Wave, Blitzball) and grammatically wrong stuff (Himmrish Arten).

But an exception and example for voice acting is Windjammers IMO.

I love to hear Klaus Wessel shouting "Gewonnen", "Kraft", "Raketenwurf" or "Drehwurf".

I would like to be a voice actor for German chars.

oh yeah and another thing that i don't think most people have noticed is that almost all americans are always drawn with blonde hair and all japanese people can have any color hair except for blonde... stupid snk stereotypes

I actually prefer Japanese voice actors. Most English voice actors suck... BIG time. It isn't really a problem in fighting games where dialogue takes a back seat to ass kicking, but in games like Onimusha, the English actors have NO feeling and never seem to get in character. I played Onimusha for 10 minutes in English, then after my ears started bleeding, I put it on Japanese and played through from the beginning again.

My brother, on the other hand, plays everything in English and doesn't care... Oh well.

Yeah, and German´s got purple. At least it is a color of nobility.

Well, I think Mark Hildreth (Fatal Fury Anime) is an excellent voice actor for Terry Bogard.

They should have picked voice actors international, definately.
