Hi, I'm pretty new here. I've been checking out the site for some time now, but I've never had a reason to post anything. The other night I got together with some new gamer friends and I brought along my AES system and Metal Slug 3. No one there had ever even seen the system before and everyone sat around fondling the massive cart. Finally I powered it up and let them, 8 in all, have at it for a few hours. People were freaking out about the graphics, "What the hell is this!? It must be at least 128 bit! Is this new?" I sat quietly not saying anything until finally they demanded to know when it had come out and what the bit count was. "It's from 1990. It's 16-bit," I said quietly. No one believed me. I actually had to go to a computer and show them all this site before anyone would accept that a 13-year-old system was putting their PS2's to shame. :) Anyway, just thought I'd share my tale about the greatest console of all time. Great board you have here too!

All of my friends are impressed with my Neo. Although most cant play fighting games worth a lick, they do think it is uber fun when I'm not playing against them. By the way, nice tribute to E.A.Poe in your quote Joe, never noticed that before.

mmmmm, my friends are "devided"

When i got my Neo Cd and they were playing Samurai S II, (thye were 14/15 at the time) those there said it was no better than a snes or megadrive game.

My actual modern friends who "know" love neogeo, the others constantly berate the system cause they know why it's good, but know that dissing pisses me off bad, comments such as :

"that machine is still getting new games??"

"hasnt the rodent running on the treadmill to power that thing died yet"

Apparantly they don't know about the MS3 port coming out on PS2.

I've showed plenty of fighting fans the Neo at my school since we have a good 2D fighting group going. They all love the system but after seeing the price and/or hassle involved with the system they all ended up downloading the ROMS or getting DC ports.

That is too funny. And what better game to show off than MS3! Great story, and I don't think it sounded like bragging at all. I think many of us have experienced something like this before.

Any way you shake it, every system has only so much RAM. Significant thing with NEO is that it has this "Direct ROM Access". Loading graphics takes no time at all while on a DVD-based system like a PS2, i can see how making really great graphics can be a challenge without large loading times or loading mid-level or whatever.

BTW, who's developing MS3 for PS2?

Hehe, that's cool. MS3 is one of those Neo Gems! It is impressive regardless of era, I hope at least the PS2 is just as good... But you just can't beat the large cartridge size. Size DOES matter.

I dont know who is handling the port, but playmore is publishing. As for the Ram...32 megs on the PS2 is plenty to run a game like MS3 with loads prolly B4 each level, but I am sure it will be quick. Calculation speed has got much faster over the course of 10 years between the Neo's and PS2's release wink

Heh, well I guess I was sort of bragging. Not bragging about my exploits, but certainly bragging about the power of the Neo.

As far as PS2 Metal Slug 3, I did in fact tell my friends about it, but I have my doubts that it will come to the U.S. and these guys aren't really hardcore enough to be into the import scene like I am. I'm personally quite skeptical about how it will turn out. PS2 only has 2 megs of Video Ram. Guilty Gear X2 turned out quite well, so I think that with proper programming it could be done, but I can't help but cringe remembering the mid-level loads of the first Metal Slug on PSone. Still, as was said the hardware has come a long way, but I can't help but wish it would have been done on the Xbox or Gamecube (preferably the cube) so a perfect port would be assured. I'll wait to see what extras they put into it before I pick it up. If there's an art gallery and some of the alternate/training missions like in Metal Slug X on PSone then it might be worth the $50 or $60.

1.) No I'm not tired, I like getting my Neo games cheap.

2.) I don't wait till the cart drops to $20 if its a good game, I bought KOF2k and MS3 as new kits because they were worth it. I'll probably do the same thing w/ KOF2k2 if you're so interested in my purchasing habits.

3.) Yes, I know I'm smart.

4.) I use this <img src="http://www.neo-geo.com/ubb/icons/icon22.gif" alt=" - " /> icon (not the horned one) because I'm usually right, and I'm king.

5.) I sign my posts because I just do, same reason you see fit to double space all your bitch fests, errr posts. Only difference is that I don't go through 20 keyboards a month because I wear out the enter key.

6.) If you don't like "Peace" then hows this...

Heheh, I believe Average Joe up there was refering to your username... and your penis size. wink

Welcome to the boards. It doesn't seem often new people come up in here with open arms. Maybe they do... but the controversial characters take most of the spotlight.

Really? I didn't even catch the penile implications. Like someone said, it's a movie title. My favorite film actually by Fellini. It has no real meaning. But still, that's great if someone thought that.
By controversial characters I assume you mean that most new people just come in to start a few flame wars and disappear? I know the type for sure. No, I just like the neo and this seems like the best place to gather information and share with other Neo owners. I usually hang out at shmups.com, but Neo owners are rare so I was looking to expand my posting horizons... :)

Heheh, Schmups. I pretty much refuse to visit that site until someone changes the review to Spriggan Powered. The review they did was actually of an unfinished beta oh_no . Reminds me - it's time for my biyearly check to see if they changed it.

Yeah, this is a great place to talk about the Neo - despite what people may tell you. You live in a good area, too. You could probably swing a few Neo Get-Togethers and have a respectable turnout.

i have been using the same keyboard for around 4 years now

in almost every post

Congradulations, I find it annoying how you somehow feel the need to talk all this shit about ports, rag on people who only use em, and generally bitch about when one is announced.

I also made that comment about Slug3 on PS2 cause there are idiots like you who like to trash what is the best system for this generation. "The PS2 only has ridge racer". Bullshit.

And no, its not that I hate home carts, I really don't. I just hate people who use them as a status symbol and try to lord them over us. There are plenty of people who I know who buy home carts because they love the games, and they don't give two shits about how much the games go up or down in value. They don't care about sunfading or if a manual has a crease in it. Those are the people who are into the AES for the games, and not for some collectable piece of plastic.

I'm not insecure, I personally don't care about how you play Neo games, be it ROMZ, home carts, NeoCD, MVS, or ports. I don't diss someone's way to play over another unless they want to start shit first, every format has its advantages or disadvantages.

Hell I defended you when you were yelling at some guy bragging about how he got FFS on MVS for $10 recently and AES users has to pay XXX more. I told you not to worry about it, since you've been enjoying FFS since it came out and it was worth the money to have it since then. Hell making the MVS price argument is pretty shitty cause anyone can come say "Well I only spent $800 on a MAME TV setup w/ arcade sticks and I have every Neo-Geo game ever made and all those other classics." But if you're going to spout out about how shitty ports are compared to a home cart, or if you want to talk shit on the PS2, then hell yeah I'll point out every flaw there is to having to deal with the AES bullshit that exists in this scene.

How's this for you,

if you

stop

double spacing your posts

and don't write in stupid little lines
like this, and accept the fact that there's
something called

text wrap

in HTML

then I'll

stop sayinig Peace

and signing my posts

tell then:
