Hi peeps,

Im new to neogeo and stumbled accorss this site,
I have just purchased a mvs 1 slot and hope to get a supergun soon.
I dont think I have played any neogeo games that I can think of so can anyone give me some recomendations to get started ?

Whats your fave 2d fighter ?
Vertical shooter and horizontal shooter ?

Also what controller do you guys prefer to use for fighting games ?

There are some handy polls in one of the forums just now about which games of each sort people like best, Evil Wasabi has links to them in his sig.

You'll find some very varied responses to your questions, especially on the fighter tip, as there are so many that there are a lot of deeply held convictions.

The only thing everyone agrees on is that the Metal Slugs are must own titles. (BBH thinks Shocktroopers is more must own though).

I was also going to ask can UK mvs boards play jap/usa games ? Do you have to mod it in some way for it to do this ?

All games work on all formats. There are no country barriers other than the language.

Another great thing about the Neo :D

That's more or less true - however 95% of Japanese games will still play in English provided you are playing on an English MVS board. The language is dependant on the bios you are using - although if you get a <a href="http://bios.cps2shock.com/" target="_blank">Uni-Bios</a> you will be able to change your region with the press of a button, as well as change between home console/arcade mode :) The only games that won't play in English are the Japanese only Mahjong/Quiz games.

You can´t get a real vertical shooter on the Neo. The only option is Strikers 1945 plus as a semi-vertical-shooter. You don´t have to turn your monitor to play it, like you have to, when playing games like Gunbird, Bee Storm - so it is not "real" vertical-shooting-game - but far the best you can get on the Neo! Go for it!

Some advice... lurk for a while and try to stay out of some of the drama/flame wars. Not productive to the community we have going here....

Favorite fighter: Sam Sho 3 and 4

Favorite shooters: Sonic Wings 3, Blazing Star, Twinkle Star Sprites

Favorite controller: Definitely the MAS Stick.
