Theres one guy I know in England.

He;s a self confessed games "collector".In fact although he's 35 he spends his life savings on games

OK WHats wrong with that???
Well........this bastard owns just about every gaming format ever and 20-25 multiple copies of consoles and carts.eg he has 36 street fighter 2's on the SNES!!!!!!!!

He buys everything in sight , and his life is devoted to buying up the old 8 bit and 16 bit games and consoles en masse.

It doesnt matter to him that he might already have 15 copies of that Sonic 3 on Megadrive.....he just has to have the 16th, and 17th, and 18th..........

I have known this guy for 7 years when he tried to buy a pc engine off me.

In that time he has always talked about trading a copy of a game with me, and then backed out (even though he has 10 copies of it already) and wasted my time.

This guy is so stingy, I never contact him for a year, and than he will contact me by email promising a great trade or something saying "give me a call".....as if he cant call me himself. The truth is this guy is tight, he will not even pay for a phone call if he can get someone else to do it.

The kind of misrable bastard who will east timned spam for weeks just so he can buy his 72nd boxed megadrive at the end of the month.

Personally I think he wanks off his collection every night.

I will telephone him when he emails me with offers of a trade and to call him ,and when I do, instead of offering me stuff for trade, he tries to buy stuff im not selling for less than half its market value, and he generally just boasts about the bargains he picks up and how many games he has, as if the fun of gaming is in bragging about what you have, rather than what you play.

Basically I cant get this guy off the phone earlier than 60 minutes. Ive never even professed an interest in 80% of the consoles he mentions , yet he bores me to death.

He sent me some pics of his collection, and this guy has rooms in his house that he cant even enter due to the volume of games.

I hadnt spoken to him for years when, lo and behold, he won an auction of mine on ebay ...suprise suprise.......he hasnt paid for it for 2-3 weeks and not given me the courtesy of a phone call.......so I emailed him and he made excuses about being too busy to pay as it would involve a 2 minute trip to a post office.

So whats my point??

Its a fact in the UK that this breed of human exists. Thats why we are seeing all the 8/16 bit games and consoles slowly disapperaing even though they sold hugely here.

Thats pretty sad.
Owning ONE copy of rare/classic stuff - or even having a copy for each region (Jap/US/UK) I could understand - sort of.
But it sounds like he is buying stuff just to stop other people from owning it.
Which is just plain selfish (if that is the case).

I gotta wonder what he is gonna do with this stuff when he gets older though........

It doesn't sound like hes going to have a wife to make him chuck it out anyway.

LoL, whatever flows his boat.... I can understand (to some extent), collecting DIFFERENT games, not not the same COMMON titles.... 36 copies of Street Fighter? That's not a collector, that's a mental patient let loose.

Nope Kenny boy thats not the nutter.

He's actually married and he works in financial services.

I guess his wife was seduced by his heroic tale of the time, his train to a gameshop was cancelled, and he had to run 4 miles in 1 hour to buy that 62nd copy of Tetris just before the shop closed for the day.

He bored me to death with it regardless

By the way, just to clarify, I dont think its wrong to own 2, even 3 copies of a title, if

a) your just protecting against future damage/loss of 1 of the copies.
b) you just want to own different versions.
c) you hope to trade or sell em in the future.

I just hate people who stop others buying stuff at a reasonable price by hoarding up stuff and stopping any one else having a chance.

I really think this is a peculiar phenomenan mostly restricted to the UK.

Man, I had a pretty big game collection at one time and it made me feel like a complete nerd sometimes. Bringing girls, or people I knew from work (who didn't play games) to my place was pretty embarrassing. I can just see somebody walking into that guy's house and thinking "look at all the stuff I could steal", and it'll probably happen. I came home one night from work sick (worked graveyard) and caught somebody in my house. Needless to say it wasn't a pretty sight. This guy better watch out, cause he's prolly gonna kill himself if that ever happens (seriously).

What a loser... 36 copies of Street Fighter? oh_no oh_no oh_no

How sad... What's he got on AES? 45 copies of World Heroes? If I were you I'd ban him from bidding on your auctions and tell him to get a life.

I'd love to see the guy's face if his house went up in flames...

BTW - this guy isn't FTL by any chance? spock

Whoa! So some stranger broke into your house? What did you say to him when you caught him, and what was he doing when you caught him in the act?

For anyone who can afford it and have lots of collectibles to protect, I highly recommend an alarm system.

My theory is that he is collecting all this material only to sell it off with what he may hope, some profits when the stuff becomes very rare, 30 years down the road.

I guess that guy is on his way to be a messie - not a collector anymore...

Please... 36 SF? Can´t believe it. If he really wants to make a big deal in the future, he should collect the games, which ARE worth something.

Quality instead of quantity.

I'm 90% sure of who it is. This piece of shit in high school I used to always fight with. Well I had another friend, who was friends with him, and he came over to pick me up one day (didn't know he was with him) and when he came in my house he kept saying "wow, it's real beautiful in here.. this is a very nice house".

Keep in mind the sole reason we ever fought in school was because he kept calling me "rich kid" (wtf, I have no idea, maybe because I wore different clothes every day). He used to tell all of my friends that I was nothing but a snobby rich kid and they should ditch me.

Anyway, the first time I saw him since high school was him coming in my house with my other friend. A week later on the DAY, I come home only to find somebody in my house. I was completely freaked out, because I couldn't see who it was, but the guy was huge. I came through my backdoor in my garage and heard loud footsteps (old house, you can hear EVERYTHING), so I immediately ran into the living room where I was met with him pushing me down hard and I fell down and hit my head on a corner of a marble table. It made me dizzy as fucking hell, but he already bolted for the door where I was able to grab his foot and trip him. I got up real quick and fell forward because I was completely off balance from getting my head hit.

The guy got out the door, and I got a look at his size. He was wearing a trenchcoat (which that bitch used to always wear in high school), so I'm almost positive it was him, but I wouldn't be able to prove anything to the police so there was really nothing I could do. I was lucky as hell because he wasn't in there long enough to take anything. I had a money order on the fridge for $300+ that was going to go towards a Neo system that he didn't get, nor did he get the $700+ that was in an envelope on the table I was going to deposit the next morning.

I think from that day forward I became "pro-gun" :D

Posted by Bobak "Does this guy have a bunker?"

hahahhaha! Its funny you say that. When this guy was showing me around his house and his games collection, I kinda felt like Michael Douglas's character in "Falling down" when he gets shown around the personal collection of the Neo Nazi shopowner.

And when he kept referring to me as a collector "like him", I felt like repeating
Michael Douglas's line, when the neo nazi tells him they are the same.........

Neo Nazi " Me and you we're the same!"
Michael Douglas " no we're not........Im an american...your a sick asshole".

ORPHEUS:
it's called obsessive compulsive dissorder.
Well hes acting on a compulsion, but I think he has a hording issue. Probably has a emotional attachment to everything he owns, much like elderly people and garbage.

I also think we now know why a Euro Kizuna is so rare ....
