Are you guys all stupid or something? Why pay over a thousand dollars for the neo geo homecart of metal slug 2 WHEN YOU CAN GET IT FOR FREE????
Who cares if its the "real" version, the game is the game whether you play it on an arcade or your computer, so why waste your money? And why get all butthurt when someone is smart enough to actually give emulators a chance? If you guys are this narrowminded and dumb, then go ahead and ban me. But if you wise up to the fact that emulators are the greatest thing ever, then I will allow you to keep me as a member.

Edit: Furthermore if you actually did some research a metal slug 2 cart does not cost $1,000 more like $300-$500 and our carts might be worth something in the future unlike ur emu.

You mean instead of playing the real thing with no glitches and a perfect picture I can download a crappy ass hack of the rom and play it on my PC with garbled graphics, broken sound and snapped control!!! I personally thank you for this amazing information that, I assure you, my fellow NG.com brothers and I have never heard. I award you this award of the highest standing:

Calm down pls,
Roms are not terrible unless you misused them.
I actually found roms useful for taking actual game screen shots, testing out a game before buying the actual carts.

As Home carts are getting more and more expensive, its not worth to spend the $ before testing the game or even seeing the game.

To tell you the truth, the roms cannot be compare to the real thing.
The graphics and sound may look the same, the game play will be different.
You won't enjoy the roms after you played the actual home cart or MVS.

I would completely agree with you if this were the case. But as I see it probably 95% of the roms play fine, as long as your computer can handle it. Granted, owning the real thing is cool if your a collector and there is sentimental value or something, I personally own a Samurai Showdown 2 dedicated cab, but other than that, Emu is the way to go.

Look, I have Neo roms on my XBOX and the play 95% perfect, but I also have a Neo home system with about 15 carts. I don't pay over $200 US for a game (until SNK vs. CAPCOM arrives, that is) and will play the emus or conversions of the very expensive titles (Metal Slug, Neo Turf Masters, and Ultimate Eleven).

But, this is an enthusiast site "dedicated to SNK's 16-bit systems and games". As such, I'm not about to consider myself a member of this site if I didn't own a legitimate piece of hardware and software that is SNK.

I agree that emus are a wonderful thing that allow gamers to play expensive games or arcade games that are not available on any other format but the point is that on this site, it should be a tool only.

Think of it as a Ferrari aficcionado who wants to be a part of a collectors' club but only owns a kit car and not the real thing. Most members would frown on it and only consider the member (or wouldbe) a pretender and nothing more.

If you want to use ROMs because you'll never buy the actual game, then go ahead. Just have respect for the people that are shelling out their hard-earned money so that the company that makes the games can pay their employees money to make more games.

I personally don't own a Neo Geo, but I play the hell out of the machine that is in the arcade (a 5 minute walk from my dorm room). I played KOF 2K when it first came out, and fell in love with it. I looked it up online and found out exactly what a Neo Geo was, and stumbled onto this board to find all these wonderful, hardcore fans supporting the wonderful system.

I won't act like I've never downloaded a ROM for the Neo Geo... but after having downloaded the ROMs and had a taste of the nearly 50 games that I now plan to buy for the Neo, I realised that the only way to really enjoy the games and say you are a true fan of the Neo is by shelling out the cash. Also, playing an MVS (and, I assume, the home system) is 999999x better than an emulator can ever be. You can't emulate that kind of quality, and enjoyment.

The Neo Geo is not like the NES, which has had its day and will no longer see profits by the people that made the games for it. The Neo Geo is an active system, and REQUIRES every ounce of support that every member of its small fan base can spare in order to survive.

I'm a student right now, but I was just offered a great 1+ year contract job, for which I will travel across the world and work, taking a year off of school. You can bet your first born son that the first thing I'm going to do with my savings is begin my own personal Neo Geo collection.

Is that stupid of me? I, for one, think not.

ok, ill give you the complete reason why ROMs are bad.

1. Usage of ROMs is illegal in many countries unless you have the original cart.

2. Playing on a computer screen is nothing like playing on a bigscreen tv or a cabinet. for one, the low resolution of the game combined with the progressive scan nature of a computer monitor means horrible pixelation, no matter what sort of edge enhancement, scanline, or dithering you put on it.

3. As for control, The best you can get is a MAS stick (yes, its good, but its huge and hard to put on your desk comfortably. and before you say anything, yes, I own one.). No kind of neogeo joysticks will work on a computer without alteration. Controllers? HAH. That is hilarious. Playing Fatal Fury or KoF with a controller is never fun. If it is, leave the house and go to a damn arcade.

4. yes, the price is high. But many people sell what they have at a later date for 200 dollars or more extra than what they paid for it when they first bought it.

5. You are hurting the companies. Piracy means money is lost on the games. The company makes less and less money.....and goes bankrupt. for a neo fan, the fact that you seem to want the company to die surprises me.

emulators are not sick. theyre for those who have never experienced the real thing.
