Hey:

...getting it into your house?

My girlfriend and I are getting ready to buy one within the next few months, our local arcade has four(!) for sale, and we are trying to figure out how the hell we're going to get it up three flights of stairs (we live in an apartment building).

So does anyone have any funny stories about getting an MVS into your house? You know, not being able to fit it through a doorway, lugging it up stairs, whatever. Let's hear it.

There's not enough room to fit a couch downstairs. The passageway is too small for proper turning. It's still amazing that I was able to get three pins down here... had to take them down piece by piece. The same thing goes for my cabs. Luckily I purchased converted NARC cabs that come apart in three different places. Not a problem to transport those. Now to the sad/funny part. After all this meticulous care not to scratch the wall while bringing down these pins and vids the basement flooded... not once but twice! Needless to say it was a disaster. Luckily I only lost a converted Mortal Kombat cab and a converted In the Hunt. That's the main reason the Joust, Pac-man, Ms Pac-man & Dragon's Lair cabinets are in the garage.

Here's a story with more humor:

This couple purchased a pool table without measuring their basement to see if it would fit. The distributor warned them of this, however they did not listen. When the arrived home they discovered, much to their amazement that the distributor had been correct. Enraged they called the distributor demanding their money back. The distributor politely refused reminding them of his previous warning. The couple by now determined to make something of their investment dragged the pool table back home. They began to saw on the drywall, cutting chunks out of it so that they could bring the table down. If memory serves they were from Evanston IL.

I have a lot of respect for this distributor. When he sold the contents of 3 out of his 4 wharehouses he did not sell any of his neogeos. When asked he said: "They make money."

God Bless the neogeo.

Well I'm not sure this counts as funny, but my Neo Cab is in a converted Smash TV cabinet..the thing is huge and weighs a ton. When I first got the cab I was living with my parents at home...on the 2nd Floor. To get the cab upstairs I had to pull out the monitor and drag the empty cab upstairs with the help of a friend. Pretty tiring work but ultimately worth it.

When i moved out of the folks house my friend was not around and I had limited time with the U-Haul. So I decided to be gung-ho and move the cab my myself...Took out the monitor like before and proceeded to pull the cabinet down the steps. Gravity was not on my side. About halfway down the stairs I slipped..tumbled down the stairs and hit the wall in the hallway. The cabinet sliding on its own force followed me down..and it hit me square in the chest. Let me tell you, there are few things in this world that compare to having a cabinet flying at you.

Fortunately I wasn't hurt...and I convienently broke the cabinets foward momentum into the wall and it was fine...although the light fixture broke (no biggie)

Moral of the story....friends don't let friends move cabs on their own.

funny story,

Well I do not know if it is funny but I can tell you my experience picking up my first mvs cab just for interest sake.

let's see

I just got my bonus from shell that year (1999) and decided to spend a little on myself. SO I was looking through Ebay and notice a 51" dynamo cab, I bid and won it. Problem was getting it to Houston. The guy was located outside of Little Rock. At the time I was driving a Honda Civic SO I asked my Good friend Loc if he wanted to drive to arkansas, He had a New ram and agreed to go. So saturday Mourning we left earlier to had out. His brother Seven (the 7th child in the family) also tagged along.

Well driving up we got One speeding ticket in some little town outside of houston and was pulled over in arkansas by a trooper who wanted to take a look at the truck the trip was long but at least all the gas stations sold beef jerky...

Anyway we finally got to this guys house, after driving through several dirt roads and asking a phone man where the hell we were we ended up at the there. It was a average size house but right next to it was a medium sized warehouse. The guy was nice enough, he showed me his cabs in his house and his MVS collection he kept under a bed. He seemed to have almost every MVS cart out. We then went to his warehouse next door.

the place was really big,it had concreate floor and there must have been about 50-60 games in there, pinball, video, juke boxes what ever. He was telling me he was getting out of the business and was pissed that he just got a NFL blitz machine and it came out on the playstation a month later. We player the cab a bit and tried out some mvs carts. The cab itself is pretty big, being in 2 parts. It just fit in the bed of the truck. So we left to get back.

the trip back was a bit faster and luckly we did not get anymore speeding tickets well i finally go home around 11pm or so. I had to take the door off the hanges in the garage to get the machine in but luckly I was able to. After about 30min of setup i had it running and the rest is history.

Not really a funny story but a story non the less. Here is a old pic of it although i have rearranged my room a bit from then.

Now for a funny story..

It was a auction I went to in Dallas there was a 19" street fighter II cab I was bidding on. I bid $50 and it went something like this.

HillBilly "$75"
auctioneer "I have $75 do I have $100"

*actioneer rambling goes on*

HillBilly *Wispers in my Ear* "If you bid $100 I will let you have it"

Me "No that's ok"

HillBilly "I mean it if you bid $100 i will let you have it"

Me "No it's yours"

Auctioneer "Sold for $75"

Hill Billy "ok if you want it I will let you have it for $85...ok ok $75"

Me "Let me think about it" *I talk to my friends and decided I really did not want it*

me "No I'm not interested"

hillBilly "WELL I DON'T NEED YOUR MONEY ANYWAY, I DO THIS FOR A LIVING, YOU THINK THIS MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE TO ME"

*he then storms off*

turns out he was the owner and was trying to jack up the bid. made me mad more then anything else.

I just hire movers. Simply call them, tell them you have a arcade cabinet to pick up and would like it moved from point a to b... it may cost you a little more, but if you call around you can probably find someone willing to do it for less than $50 (believe me, it is worth it to not break your back caring the thing up the stairs!). If you have three or four strong friends, you may be able to manage... but remember:

1. Arcade games are heavy, over 200 lbs
2. Arcade games are top heavy and awkward
3. Arcade games can be damaged if dropped
4. Professional Movers can handle awkward heavy items better than four kind hearted friends.

In the end if you plan to move it yourself here is some advise. Make sure that you bring people to help you put it in your truck (arcades usually refuse to help), or get a Uhaul truck with and electric lift. Rent a dolly if you do not have one. Clear all door ways/hallways before leaving to pick it up (this keeps people from tripping over stuff when everyone is concentrating getting the cab in the door). Once you start going up the stairs, don't stop, take it steady and keep moving. Movers are your best bet though, I have hired them quite a few times to move them from one apartment to another, state to another, etc

Hello everybody !
My story / adventure with a cab !

Just got my 6 slot orgianl cab and started to think "this would be great in my bedroom"
Hey those 30 steps wont be a problem even though they are split in two 15 flights with a complete turn in direction. It wasnt till me & my brother got to the 14th step then relised how the fuck are we goin to turn "it was a very tight turn" we was stuck there for 10 minutes trying different ways to hold the weight by this time the not very heavy cab had turned into a extremly heavy cab.
Eventually the NEO GOD come to the rescue an give us both super mvs 6 slot lifting powers that forced the cab up the stairs "holy shit was shouted as we got to the top also the words never again".
It was worth it in the end until I decided to sell 2 weeks later. Know getting it down is another story "but one of the other stories here a arcdae cab sliding down the stairs is no JOKE !

Just another quick funny story.
Weve got the builders in doing plumbing down stairs, they had the toilet outlet pipe disconnected with the open end in the kitchen,
unknow to me I wasnt supposed to flush the toilet "not a pretty site "

Well I have moved quite a few arcades machines in my day. The MVS system I have is the heaviest single monitor system I have. It friggen weighs a ton. It is still sitting at my parents house waiting to be moved. That and my Run and Gun system I am going to have a hell of a time getting into my basement.

I paid the people I bought the system off of 40 extra Canadian Dollars to move it to my house and down into my basement.

It was going well at first but due to the basement ceilings low height, we could not get it all the way down the steps. We ecentually removed a banister to get it down.

That is not funny. What is funny is that I never had a chance to secure the banister back in. So when my slighty over weight brother put some weight on it...you get the idea. That is funny!

my cab

I'm not sure how funny it is but when I moved my cab into my house I brought it through the front door, throught the hallway, then it wouldn't make it through my bedroom door. after the adventure of using a really bad van with almost no oil, coolant, and a really bad engine 1/2 an hour and having to be to work in 45 minutes me and my friend just forced it through the doorway. I broke off paint and wood. and even though I would be late to work I just had to play a few games before I left the house. so I was late to work, broke a doorway, and rode in a van that could've broken down at any moment. Then later in the week my mom asked my what broke the doorway and I had to say it. So I guess next time I gotta dissasemble the thing. and I still have to fix the doorway I broke over half a year ago,

When i got mine i never measured and we had one of those letter boxes that stick out and had to remove it to ge tthe cab in the house, but as i had no way of getting it off till the other ppl got home i plugged it in the wall and was playing it out side as luckily the plug in the kitchen was near the door,, however once we got the letterbox off the cab was too wide to go through the hallway and therefore had to leave it in the kitchen to play it instead of my bedroom whioch was an eye sore

had to get a supergun then so i could play games in my room
the cab was as heavy as fuck too

Had an experience similar to zorro's when I got my Sega Astro City a few weeks ago. I'd already measured the gameroom door, so I knew in advance that the cab would be too wide to just roll backward thru the door on its casters. I'd estimated, however, that it should be possible to lay it on its side and slide it thru the doorway, angling it as we went to get the control panel lip thru. That didn't work, even when we removed the gameroom door (and the garage door next to it in the hallway). taitai had told me previously about the Astro City being designed to disassemble into 3 large sections, so we spent nearly an hour locating all the bolts and release points in order to break it down. Once we had the 3 sections separated, each of them fit very easily thru the gameroom door and we simply reassembled the cab inside the gameroom. Of course, this means that bastard is never leaving that room again...

I'll have to see about posting the pics some time.

I think the moral of the story is...
All Neo Geo owners should live on the first floor. ;)

I almost bought a 6 slot cab until I read about them having issues. I wouldn't have been able to get it inside... all my 4 of my doors are standard...so it would have ended up in the garage....and then would have been damaged when my AC dumped a few gallons of water into the garage later on that month.

I did however manage to get my 4 slot all the way home from the city, unloaded it, got it inside my house...and then my sister's BF insisted on moving it the rest of the way into the room.... he rubbed its side on my bar, and the hit the wood part of the couch.... needlessly screwing up its brand new paint job. :oh_no:

every time I look at those marks I want to choke that kid out hardcore

Although i didn't have any real trouble moving my MVS-4-25(ver 3) 4 slotter into my basement (i'm lucky enough to have carport access on the same floor), the Friend of mine that sold it to me had to haul it down a high 2nd floor apartment and practically did it by himself(i was at the top guiding it down). By the time we got it down the stairs his forearms had cramped up so bad that his fingers curled in and he couldn't straighten them. Luckily i had a can of Ultra Tiger Balm in my car trunk and told him to use some. His fingers uncurled inside of 30 seconds. I felt sorry when i stopped laughing. On a different note he repeated the process a couple of months later when he moved out of that same apartment and tried to take his washer down the stairs....(w/o letting the water out of the bottom of it 1st). Needless to say he finally bought a house and should never suffer from moron mover syndrome again.
