Well I have had the Sega Saturn Metal Slug forever and was thinking of hetting the MVS version soon. I went thourgh the saturn version and noticed imense slodown on specific areas and wanted to know if the the slowdown was present or minimized in the MVS version. So I decided to (oK guys no death threats) to download the rom to see what the differences where in specific areas and came across no slowdown. Now is taht because the emulator eliminates slowdown beacuse of the ram (I have 256 megs)or there is no slowdown on level one in the MVS version? I have never played the original in an Arcade before so can anyone please let me where is there slowdown in level one if there even is any. I know in the saturn version when you get to the boss you get a level of slowdown so high I thought I was watching the Matrix or something. Anyone know?

I've never played the Sega Saturn version, but concerning the MVS or AES there is no major slowdown - it's very playable.

an emulator would not show slowdown, unless its coded _very well..

imagine a software neogeo running over a 800mhz + cpu.. of course it'll run a bit fast

I don't think that MS X was released only because MS 2 had slowdowns but it'a reason.

MS#2 has a real bad slowdown problem,AES, MVS or emu, MSX release was really just a fix for this.
IMHO MS2 is a better game.

It could have been better if SNK had completed it.

Actually MSX would have contained all MS 1+2 levels playable with all bosses and original stuff.

But they decided that the game would be to long.

How shitty.

I think it would have had much more value and MS1 would have lost much of it´s value!

All MVS Metal Slug games slowdown to varying degrees.

Metal Slug 1 and X on the PSX do not slowdown.

Since no one has directly answered this question: YES, there is a lot of noticeable slowdown in Metal Slug 1 on the home cart system. The part with the boss that you mention does indeed slow the game to a crawl, especially with two players, and is reminiscent of Metal Slug 2. Numerous other parts of the game experience these problems, including almost all of the bosses, a large portion of level 6, and numerous areas played via 2-player mode. Although these flaws are not quite as evident as say Metal Slug 2 or the "Alien" and "fat" parts in Metal Slug X, the game is still hindered by them. Despite these flaws, the original Metal Slug remains a classic and my favorite in the series.

Sincerely,

Mikhail
