Dreamcast mag U.K gives LB2 a 39%!

what the hell is wrong with them? Thats a god damn f! The guy said the graphics were horrible. I guess the bastard only likes 3d games. After all 2d is soooo old and outdated. Yeah right what a prick. Just because you can see pixels doesn't mean the graphics are bad. LB2 has great character designs. The actual artwork is really good.

I have the Jap. version for my Dreamcast. It's great. The reviewer did say he also didn't like the Fatal Fury and King of Fighter's series. I guess he just doesn't like fighting games.

39%! Wow, that's a pretty low score for LB2. I've also had the Jap version for DC for quite sometime and I think the game is great. My one friend that comes over to play every once and a while preferred to play that over Guilty Gear X. LB2 is a much deeper game overall all and plays better in my opinion. This is why I don't always take reviewers opinions too seriously. I truly enjoy the game and that's what matters.

No reviewers dont like to look back,they are blinded from anything 2d now ,and automaticly base there review on graphics.

This is how reviewers rate a modern 3d games:"oohhhhhhhhh look at that 3d theres no glitches or pixels,the games utter shite but oh look at how that enemy does that preprogramed linear thing that isnt true AI,
this game is actually quiet good i can save the game every 3 seconds so ill beat it in a day,lets give it 100%"
This is how they review a 2d game:
"er its 2d lets not bother playing it,thats old hat lets just give it 10% or maybe a little more if there is a unpixilated title screen".

Sounds like reviewer bias... what a shame. Someone who knows more about SNK and Neo Geo should have done the review instead.

Don't you know? Since 3D games came out, 2D stuff is old and dated and 2D games are for kids!!! (impression of some of the people I know)

That mark doesn't suprise me - it is typical of the 3D brainwashed kiddies these days to slag off anything that is 2D without actually trying to play the game properly. <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0">

Yeah, I can remember reading DC reviews of KOF 99 Dream Match and KOF 99 Evo in certain UK DC mags - they slagged off both of those games as well and actually said something like "the thing that makes it so crap is the graphics... 2D died years ago"... grrrrr!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/veryangry.gif" border="0">

Oh yeah - anybody in the UK read Digitiser on Teletext? When they reviewed Capcom Vs SNK, they said something like this:

"Nobody actually cares about this game, because it is 2D and crap. But the irony of this is that it is actually a very good game and probably the best 2D fighter ever made"

There are soooo many flaws in that argument that I can't even be bothered to point them out <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

The same magazine gave Capcom vs. SNK damn near 100 %. Now I enjoy that game a lot (Mostly cause my friends are more into capcom games so this gives them a chance instead of us playing KOF or something)

I guess a 2d game is only good if they have really nice un pixelated graphics in the background or if it's just plain 3d.

Here is my opinion.
Graphics are meaningless, with that said lets go into the gameplay schematics,
if the game is 3-d and as beautiful as gold, but has bad gameplay, it gets a 0, in my book.
Any true gamer knows for FACT that its the gameplay that matters, the graphics are just the icying on the cake.
If the gameplay goes unnoticed to people that have no place in the gaming industry then they need there head smashed in.
First if a game is to be rated it should be rated on the basis a game was made for gameplay, (even has the word "game" in the word. Not eye candy.
Now if its the graphics that they look at, not the overall product they should get in back of the unemployment line. There reviews arent worth reading.
These bad reviews always come from bad reviewers.
As a reviewer myself I dont look at the architecture or look the game was made. I LOOK AT THE GAMEPLAY.

Damn right - same here. If I review a game, I admit that good graphics and nice sound can add to the "WOW" factor (and maybe draw you further into it), but the main thing that matters is gameplay... if it plays like crap, no amount of flashy graphics can save it.

Well, you know there are people so poor that they only have money, so there might be gamers that are so blind that they can only see the graphics of a game.

It is true that graphics are meaningless. But Agtec new that by porting a 1997 game from a 16bit system to a 128bit system for a 2000 release was going to mean low scores. The game has depth, the game is great, but the big gripe I always hear from reviewers is that there is nothing new about it. I think Last Blade on Dreamcast was a wonderful port, but that is all it really is, they didn't even redo the music. Now, for fans of SNK the game is great, but can you see how someone who has never played the LB series feels when they pick this up in 2000. The game plays pretty tight, but looks unpolished. The music is pretty outdated with midi instruments, and there are no super secret things to unlock. The truth is that reviewers expect a lot out of games these days, especially 2d fighters. They feel it has all been done before, and where LB2 is a great game, it is just not anything new... and above that it looks no where as polished as say GGX or CvsS. Can you really blame the guy? Had LB2 been a huge arcade hit world wide he would dig this, but as is, he is not an SNK fan, LB has no nostalgia for him, and it could have been done equally as well on PSX. The review seems harsh, but the truth is about 90% of his readers agree. We all have to admit that we are the dinosours here. I will always love 2d and retro games, but their availability in the future is unknown.

Nick - you got a good point there... but I still think that a lot of people are brainwashed by graphics too much these days.

Working in the shop where I do, it is amazing when you see people (grown adults not just kids) that walk in and see an amazing looking intro from a PS1 game and say "Oh wow, that intro is great, I got to buy that game its the best game ever!!!!". That's before they have even played it <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0">

That said,it doesnt mean all 3d games are bad either,but since people (including myself) got obsessed with 3d graphics cards for there pc and massive mhz cpu's,its turned into a graphics=games scenario,where if a game has good frames per second and smooth graphics theyll now bump the score up,pc's are an expensive thing to buy games for cos although all new pc games are for the pc it may not work with your machine,you may have to upgrade or buy a new pc for latest games every year,and in the end all it amounts to is better graphics.its time they looked back,theres only so far we can go,its not like there gonna make 4D games is it,so all they are doing is trying to mess around with so called AI and graphics,the Artificial Intelligence is actually fake cos a computer cant be intelligent,what it does is preprogrammed.with 3d fighting games i get the unnerving feeling that sometimes im not in complete control of the fighter,you might do a combo and you can sort of leave it to do its fancy graphics.

Its just the crappy main stream mags over here if it aint 3D they say it sux only the more "hardcore" mags will see it for what it really is!!

You've got to remember game reviewers fear games that don't conform to current trends. They hate games that aren't similar to what is considered popular.
Does Tekken get good reviews because its good or because its popular?
Remember when every game reviewer said Mortal Combat was the best fighting game reguardless of Fatal Fury 2 or Streetfighter 2. Reviewers don't score games on substance, just on popularity.
