I guess the AES market is finally peaking.

2200 for a Jap Slug 2 (not even a slow down free game, for god's sakes), $499 for a shitty little insert sold by NGF etc...

It's pretty obvious that these prices are getting out of hand, and speculation (not even collecting) is driving up prices.

People have compared this to comic books. I've got 2 pieces of bad news:

1. It took a looooong time for spider man #1 to get to how expensive it is now.

2. Its pretty tought to sell a minty mint spider man #1 for its "guide price", as the comics market bottomed out quite a bit in most areas.

Food for thought, or fuel for flames? You be the judges :)

I Agree, since the loss of snk, i've seen price's in my local game shop for neo aes carts hit the roof, collectors item my ass, it doesn't cost that on MVS, i bought Metal Slug 1 on MVS for $20.00, and yet the home cart NOW is $2500 hmm <img src="graemlins/veryangry.gif" border="0" alt="[Very Angry]" /> you can be f++++d if im paying that for a game, I'm glad i went all MVS now

It will peak when adults of the Neo Geo era (1990-200X), and teenager of the later Neo Geo era 200X growup and find other use for their money. IMO, it will peak in 10 more years.

NSX T is somewhat right...

I've just now Graduated from university, and I'm wasting money like there's no tomorrow.

But Even I know $2200 us (I can't even count how much canadian cash that is, so its irrelevent) for a GAME is pretty iffy.

Waste it, and collect all the homecarts (I did ;) ), but there will still be the younger generation that will do the same. 10 more years feels right.

No no no, that was a Japanese Slug 1 ;)

Slug 2 (US) went for around $1200 on ebay a month or two ago and so I was somewhat confused when you said that a Japanese copy went for almost twice that amount

I'll give me 2 cents on this too, what makes Neo-Geo games (especially AES) different than comic books and Enron stocks is, mainly that only a handful of them were produced, especially those published in between late 1995 and 1997. Most of the games are made in low hundreds for home system. Another thing to point out, even with such high prices fetched on eBay, almost all of us who have the rares games are unwilling to sell them, simply because 1: We like the games a lot 2: We spent a lot of time looking for the games and no money can buy back the games we got.

I'd recommend people not getting games like MS1 AES due to the outrageous prices, unless you're shooting for complete AES collection, which IMO is a bit too late now, prices on many titles have gone off the roof, I have not seen a number of AES games on eBay for quite a while and I'd not be surprised to see them fetched for a good amount, such as Waku Waku 7, Breakers, Magical Drop 2 or 3, etc.
