I need some honest opinions on the Phantom-1 converter

I'm seriously thinking about switching to MVS with the use of my AES and a Phanton-1 converter. I know that the slots on my AES need to tightened, but is there anything else I need to know before hand? I'm planning on leaving the converter in my AES forever as I want to fully convert to MVS cartridges so any advice would be appreciated.

You will not be able to leave it in forever, as the MVS end of the converter is extremely tight. The converter is also awfully expensive. I'd suggest getting an MVS cab, or maybe Arcade's new Shadow 4 instead. It's only around $350 if you don't want a controller or a game with it.

Why wouldn't I be able to leave it in forever even if the fit was extremely tight?

Think about it man. If you're having a TERRIBLE time of getting MVS carts on and off of the converter, how do you expect to keep it in your system?

Pulling off and putting on the MVS cartridges really won't be a problem as I'm sure it won't be that bad. Are there any other problems I should be aware of?

what is exactly the Shadow 4 system?
Is it official?
Is it the best and why?
What can you do with?
;)

First of all, I have no official affiliation with these guys, just an admiration for their technical work.

Visit www.neogeousa.com for info about Arcade's products, including the Shadow 4. You can also e-mail sales@neogeousa.com

Of course, I'll expect that you tell them who sent you. Never know, I might get a discount sometime. ;-)

Come to think of it... Someone on these forums had a great solution for the Phantom-1, I think it was DJbomberman, but search around and you'll find it anyway.

He put his Phantom-1 into a custom fitted cartridge casing, so that it basically worked like a home cart.

Kyo is right, you can't just "leave it in" all the time. The fit of an MVS cart on the converter is so tight that you'll have to remove it from the home cart system each time you want to switch carts. Its not a good situation, which is why I unloaded my converter and the system that I used for it (which had slots replaced). Also, having the cart slots replaced is a bad option, as after that process you may not be able to use your home cart system easily for regular home carts anymore (as happened to me).

The "Shadow 4" may be a better option for MVS carts, but I'm not sure how likely that is to come out. A cabinet is the best option for MVS carts right now . . .

I've had my differences with this guy, but I think we're putting them aside. You truly should listen to his advice. A cab is the best option. Hit the yellow pages and find your local arcade distributor, that's the best (and usually cheapest) option to find one.

From having e-mailed about it, it's my understanding that the Shadow 4 is on a made-to-order basis, doing one run of the product at a time.

I've had my converter for about a month now and have not had an issue with using it. But, for as much as I love the converter...I admit that it is only a short-term solution for me as I'm currently keeping an eye out for a Candy cab :D

Of course, company's will furiously defend their products against any critical comments. Chimpmeister, did you get an e-mail about it yet? I did.

I have to say that I like like my !Arcade! converter and that it works perfectly :D

I have an AES system with SN 46196 and the converter fits and works PERFECTLY!!! I also did the little mod (which DjBomberman found out) and gave my conveter a nice shell (maybe I will post pics)... and this thing adds a lot of plus points:

1) no more troubles inserting the converter
2) no more swapping of the converter
3) inserting a mvs cart is much more easier (cause you can better push the mvs in the converter)
4) and finally it looks great

okay... the slots are tight as hell and also the stereo jacks don't work (cause I have the wrong aes generation  )... but I don't care about that too much...

I sure, the dream of every neogeo gamer is to have his own cab... I'm also looking foward the get one... in 1 or 2 years maybe... but this is a long time and so I'm DAMN lucky to own a !Arcade! converter

I should point out that my converter functioned fine and dandy, the only complaint I had was the extra-tight connection between the MVS game and the converter. Also, the need to remove the converter from the system every time a game was changed, which I understand isn't an issue with the newer converter (you'll have to talk to Arcade, I haven't tried the new version).
