Why do you love Neo games?

Are you interested in games mainly because of their rarity/monetary worth or because you actually love the game itself? Have any of you bought Neo games that you hadn't played previously? Has this ever lead to disappointments? I've noticed a lot of discussion concerning which "run" a particular game is like whether it's a "1st run" or "2nd run". People are willing to pay hundreds of dollars more just to have a game item considered to be an original. To me, this is not an emphasis. I buy Neo games primarily because I like the artistic and gameplay elements provided. As far as the rarity of an item, I do get some satisfaction although secondarily and not enough for me to want to pay hundreds of extra dollars.

Well to expound on these posts here made by monkeys I would have to say it’s the sheer power of the console. A system that came out in 1989 to compete with the systems of that era can still push out graphics that put PS2 to shame. And the other thing is that I just love cartridge-based systems. Just something nostalgic about them. they remind me of my young childhood years.

I play SNK (Neo Geo) games because that's what I was raised on. I love them. I got my Neo back in 90/91 for my 8th birthday. I was young and stupid...so I didn't really appreciate it as much. Plus I only had Cyber Lip and Top Players Golf, (because of this, I want to buy Cyber Lip for my Neo 25). Anyways, being the stupid kid I was, once my Neo Geo AES got a bit weared out, I sold it instead of getting it fixed. I was basically ripped off, but it was my fault. I sold it for about 1/4th of what it was actually worth. To this day I still regret it, but got a Neo 25 to make for it. So to answer your question, because SNK rocks my face off!!

Its all about the gameplay. How many 2D games like Metal Slug do you see showing up on mainstream consoles these days? Not many..and what games are, usually are below average ports. Neo Geo represents true arcade style gaming. Even the Neo Geo games that were in the arcades over 10 years ago are still tons of fun to play. Also having a Neo Geo is having the opportunity to play all the great games overlooked by the general public.

I'm a gamer first, collector second. I don't care much about First Run, Second Run and stuff like that, but since most Neo Geo games aren't cheap to say the least, I can't help but be a bit picky over a game's condition, completeness, or whether its a U.S. or JPN version, etc.. Its great to have a game in excellent shape that at least somewhat holds its value, if the time comes to sell it to buy something else. But no way would I fork over like $1600 for a Slug 1 when I could just get a conversion, or a Phantom + MVS cart version..

Gameplay and replayability, the only two qualities I look for, I occasionally look at the company though.

I like the games of the 16bit era, and enjoy playing with old-school. Neo Geo is the best of all the 16 bitters, so I decided to collect the Neo Geo 2 years ago.

The artisic values are a bid part of it: Style, ambiance, art direction, music. Most Neo games tend to have a special artistic flare that most other games lack. Then combine that with some of the finest gameplay ever, and you have a very happy life of gaming!!! :D

I love the Neo Geo for it's artistic quality, game play, replay value, music, and the fact that they are cartridge based making load time lickidy split. But what I love most of all is the fact that I am actually playing an arcade game within a cartridge and not just an open to elements and large PCB. Console games don't do it for me as much as the Neo Geo does. Plus I prefer 2D graphics over 3D, I get this feeling that more time and effort are put into these games as well as perhaps a bit of love as well.

Why do you love Neo games?

For this stupid question you should be banned from the forum! <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Just kidding! <img src="graemlins/tickled.gif" border="0" alt="[Tickled]" />

But I think the games answer the question!

I'm with NSX-T on this one. I love the 16-bit era, and the Neo has some of the best games of that era. The gameplay of the 16-bit era blows most of today's games out of the water. It doesn't hurt that the games are rare and sought after. I do collect games in addition to playing them.

"Why do you love Neo games?"

That's easy! If you like 2d games, most of the neo games are the pinnacle of their respective genres.

When you combine nostalgia with this gaming attraction, you end up collecting and gaming.

Because I like 2D fighters alot more than I do the 3D ones. The 3D ones are still cool, but 2D fighters have their own feel and strategy that you can't get on any other medium. So I used to hate KOF and SNK games but as I got more mature I played them on EMU and eventually got an AES. Then I realized how expensive all the games I wanted were, and how much I spent on an AES, so I sold it and built my supergun. Haven't regretted it since.

Peace
