KOF2k2 is actually pretty fun, and the graphics are actually improved a LOT this year. Kim's sprite has been re-done and let me tell you, it's animation is very good. I wish they would re-draw all the sprites and update them. The BG's are very much improved from 2k1 (that's not saying much). But I noticed Tizoc and King ( :( ) in one of the BG's, and you can see there is much more detail and animation than there was before.

Anyway after playing this for a little bit (albeit with no sound :( ) I know that I must own it on MVS! If XMas doesn't bankrupt me I believe that I will spring for this cart, the game is just friggin cool!

Peace

I made sure to have enough for this one! I've got the money just waiting to come out of my account for it.

BTW JHendrix, I already got an impression of the game... the real game, not some rom, a few weeks back. Thanks anyway, cock!

I got a couple of plays in the arcade...

It plays very similar to KOF '98, although the graphics seem a lot 'smoother' then '98( this was on a 32" Dynamo as compared to my 25" ).

Goro is back and he's as good as ever, at least the CPU was murdering my team with him...

Man, I'm sooooo excited to play this. I've been playing 98 on my Neo about an hour and a half a day to get ready for this.

Yeah, it plays very well and it's so nice at the Character select screen to see only 3 person teams again, its like what KOF2k1 should have been.

But yes, the control seems to be very nice in this game, and I haven't found any of the hit box problems that existed in 2k1. There is the matter of making the game crash like a mofo w/ some of the combo's but I haven't bothered to even try, I'm having too much fun with it right now. Still I'm still impressed with the graphics in this game, Kim's animation is really very good for KOF.

Again I gotta say after the XMas money comes in I'm probably going to be getting this cart ASAP.

Peace

And would you have been so excited about buying the MVS game if you had not played the ROM today? Exactly my point, Emulation can be a good thing to help you find great carts to buy... I do it as well, and I am really looking forward to KOF2K2, I will get the MVS as soon as I can!

Damn, I was playing for a bit more and I gotta say this is one fucking sweet game.

I've raved about Kim's animation and I must say that it almost looks to be of MOTW quality at some points. I think that there is plenty of hope yet for us KOF fans.

BTW, the BG's have so much in there as little gifts to the Neo faithful. Lots of chars form Real Bout, or old KOF's, hell even MOTW chars are in there, it's fucking awesome. They're all animated *pretty* well. Nothing insane, but still very nice. Also Rugal looks very nicely animated. I think Fran and I were wrong when we said that Playmore couldn't draw any sprites. There is much improved here and it shows that there can be more that is to be done. I am truely excited about this game now, when before I thought it was going to be a new re-hash.

Man I really want this cart now...

JHendrix: Look, I know you're a Neo supporter and all, but somehow it still strikes me as really terrible that you downloaded and are playing that rom. It's so fucking dirty and wrong to do that with an unreleased game. I just get so angry at those bastard rommers... Stealing and then talking about it like it's something to be proud of...

I downloaded it to, I am not proud, but I will be honest. It is a shit substitution... No sound, have to play in Home mode or limited to 1 player teams, Soft Dips are fucked up, but it made me hyped as hell about the game.

I have roms for two reasons, one for evaluation, and two for backup... I own a lot of real MVS games, I am nearing the 100 mark... If I ever get bit rot or a dead chip I will cry, atleast I know that I can always reburn the chip from the rom.

Secondly... I don't feel dirty, see above, I have bought tons of MVS games, I am not looking for a free ride. Actually, I will probably end up with a complete MVS collection by the time I am done, and it was all because of emulation.

Back in 1999 I was happy with the few MVS games I had and my arcade cab, then I found Neo Rage X and the MOTW ROM... it was all down hill from there... I wanted to see all the games I had been missing, and once I did... I bought them. Look, there is no way in hell I would be here today talking to you about Neo Geo if it wasnt for emus getting me into this machine like never before. Now I have about 100 original MVS games... I don't feel dirty at all,

I've been doing the same thing tonight... I will own this game... This is by far the best KOF I ever played. I played it for a brief stint at SHGL last month, but I was being rushed... My friends aren't really into Neo and they wanted to go. Having it here and getting to see all the little details... its amazing. Really, people from all sorts of Neo Games in the background, not just fighters... look close. And the backgrounds themselves have wonderful lighting and atmosphere, they look almost too good for the Neo... how did they do this!?!

So, let me sign off by saying, I don't support emulation as a substitution to the real thing... Cause in the end, nothing beats a real MVS or Home system. But, if you have any doubt in your mind, play the game, any way you can. You will be buying it soon after I am sure.

KOF2002 has moved up as my next must have neo game... That is pretty impreseve to me since yesterday I was kind of ho hum about it,

ditto.
someone passed me this rom, and all it did was hype me up.

if someone actually uses THIS rom as a substitute? They have HORRIBLE taste. KOF2k1 sounds blaring in my ear the whole time, out of sync...its all pretty bad.

but, i know the game is going to look great on my wega!

no one really talks about the interface! i think this years interface and presentation are the best yet. The continue screen especially. Top notch style here guys...i hope they make a kick ass insert as well.

peace,

I have the home version ordered... the rom just shows how beautiful the graphics will be. It's tough to play the rom because something happens, Terry pulls a burn knuckle and screams like a bitch, and I can't play the game because I'm rolling on the floor laughing. :)

Oh I'm psyched for this game!

For sure after looking at the official site again, I love the character art this year. And if it plays even better than last year, it will be supreme.

In my opinion, this is the best fighting game SNK has made up to this point. I was talking to a few gamers about this in the past week and everyone agreed that MOTW looks good, but the gameplay of KOF 2K2 is by far deeper and way beyond MOTW.

I met another KOF player a few days ago, and when he came by to play KOF 2002, he went bonkers. No kidding. He was pulling off some insane combos I've never seen before (nah, I didn't challenge him, since I didn't want him to post here that I got my ass whooped), which even surprised himself as he claimed these moves weren't possible on previous installments of KOF's.

If you own a home system and can only afford to buy 1 game, this is it. A huge roster of fighters, and again, smooth frame rate, tight gameplay, this is the KOKOF (King of King of Fighters).

I normally don't buy the Neo home stuff, but as full as my stocking is, the Home US version is going to have to fit in there somehow.

Don't be a fool and ask for a digital camera this Christmas. The only memories you want to capture are those of infinite combos in KOF 2K2 that you pull off on your 3 year old cousin.

Dude Shawn, I'd better get my copy on time. :)
