HAPPY METAL SLUG 4! 19 days! COUNTDOWN BEGINS!

Hey, i just want this post to be free of all the damn dissing ive read on Slug 4. To begin with fair enough, you may not like the game, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, so here i present you with mine. The last thing the neo scene needs is for a bad rep on a newly released title. Secondly, we need to keep the scene as healthy as possible and im sick of hearing people tell shawn to reduce his stock. Thats pure bull Leave shawn to do his business, and dont come to his site to f it up. I have orderd slug 4, and i may sound like someone who is peed off at buying a game that everyone is dissing, thats not true. Im not peed off that you diss it, im peed off at what you are doing to the scene. I paid for it because i love the series and all its done for me. It got me into the neo scene. Please, please please stop dissing the game without at lease letting the people know what is good about the game, and dont say nothing is good about it. I am so eager to play the home version, and i dont have am arcade near me which has it. So, i cant write a review, obviously.

I just want this post to be the start of a Happy slug 4. For all those that are excited about their copy because they know that they have played some of the slug series, and the goodness it brought to them. I wanna hear good things. Not because im convincing myself its good, because i know it cant be as bad as you all make out. You say you want to support the scene, then you do this before a premier release for the boys at neo-geo.com.

My point is valid. Those who care need reply. This is the Metal Slug 4 Aes Birthday thread. And its my party, so ill cry if i want to. I know they will be tears of happiness. Long live Metal Slug. Be gratefull you idiots.

Speaking of people saying the price will drop fast is bull too. The game only has 300 US copies. Dont tell me thats going to be picked up at $100. No chance. You must be living in argentina.


P.S Im in England, how long will it take for a copy to arrive from Neo-geo.com? I paid the $37 shipping option if that helps...thanks.

I am new to the Neo Geo scene as well and dont even have an AES yet, I was gonna get slug 4 until so many said that it sucks.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Whoever says it's a bad game has to be full of shit. I mean, if there are bad things, that's acceptable, but when you take a game like MS4 and write a giant review and fail to praise anything much, focusing only on negatives, you're causing a lot of hurt. There's no way it could be a bad game. That's like how some people say MS3 is a bad game. No... fucking.... way. Hey, I've heard the arguments against MS3 and MS4, and you know what? They suck. I've played lots of Neo-Geo games now and I've played a lot of video games, and any Metal Slug game released is amazing. Every single one. Relative to all the games I've played, Metal Slug 3 is a fantastic game. I've seen videos of part 4, and it looks like more of the same.
Rehash? Yeah, good! I don't want something new, I just want new areas and circumstances. I want to have 4 Metal Slug games laid out in front of my friends with our choice of "which one to tackle today?"! That's what's great about arcade games. They're simple fun, pick it up and fucking play. Those of you who forgot that, go somewhere else.
I wouldn't be so combatitive normally over an unreleased game, but since I've seen Metal Slug 3 attacked recently too, I am a little ticked off. I've had Metal Slug 3 for 3 weeks now and I still play it more than any other other game I own. It has replay value, boy does it ever. It's amazing.

Seriously though, it's a Slug game, so it has to be good. I think the gripe people have is it seems to be a rehash. Beggars can't be choosers, however, and you won't be getting a Slug anywhere else.

PS: Supporting the scene doesn't mean stapling your lips to anyone's ass that happens to be a high roller in the said scene. It means loving the games (that deserve to be loved) and hating those that suck (and believe me, there are some Neo games that suck large donkey testicles). It's a love for the system as a whole, not each and every little thing it produces. If people have a problem with Slug 4 then let their voice be heard.

PPS: I haven't even played Slug 4 yet so I don't know how it stacks up. In fact, this is the first Slug 4 thread I've posted in.

I can speak for myself here, when I say it's hurting the scene, I mean that bashing an unreleased game mercilessly as I've seen done to MS4 is hurting the scene, especially since a rehash of Metal Slug is still a lot of fun.

I knew it. I knew people were reading the crap assed reviews and getting pee'd off but no one has spoken of it yet, i thank you guys. I tell you that they ARE entitled to their own opinion, but they are not being respectful to the neo scene by dissing it WITHOUT saying its benefits. As a previous post mentioned very well on this thread, i too play the slug series with a passion more than anyother game, and they, TO ME, have more replay value than any other game!And i have over 400 games. So its not baseless. Now, how about you guys who diss it, tell us some good things for a change. Just because you cant afford a copy, dont ruin it for the scene. Ive come to the conclusion that anyone who is dissing it simply cant afford a copy. I dont care what anyone else says anymore since their arguments are SO one sided. I think there are 70 slug fans on earth. 50 are counted for in the sales of slug 4 (via neo-geo.com) and 20 who own the mvs. Im one of the 50. Hi Slug Flyer, I'm in London. Where are you in the UK? I would like to meet up with another Neo Geo fan. And perhaps we can try out Metal Slug 4 together in an arcade along Tottenham Court Road.

I can see where you're coming from about supporting the scene, but I feel it would be bias of me to say I like a game for reasons apart from because I like the game. It just seems silly. I'm a fanatic about the Neo Geo, but that does not stop me from seeing a crap game as just that. I'm not going to sing praises of Legend of Success Joe or Puzzled just because they are Neo Geo games.

I wrote my impressions after I played the game. And then I played the game somemore to convince myself otherwise.

I am pleased, as I mentioned in my review, for a sequel to this series, but I don't want to be grateful for a shoddily done game that might in all likelihood be the demise of the series. Can you imagine how much talk there would be if Metal Slug 3 were released at the same time as Demonfront?

Liking a bad game just because it's on your favorite system is the fastest way to kill it.

I hope you made it in the heat of the moment as I believe anyone with some reason will realise that a game doesn't magically improve just because you can afford it. When I buy it, which I will coz' I'm a hopeless collector, it wouldn't change my impression of it.

Well, okay, there was one thing that was refreshing I saw in the game. The character select screen has been updated! Woohoo! (This may sound condescending but I really was quite piqued) In Metal Slug 3, I remember commenting to my partner that the character select screen has been exactly the same since 2. In Metal Slug 4, the entire screen is redone, albeit similar. Upon selecting your character, they get 'dispensed' from tubes below their icon and they run off to the side of the screen. Kinda cute.

That game is easy. I came 5 shots within beating the game with 1 quarter on the MVS version and I didn't even have to cheat

Kouhi, real sluggers play for high scores, not to complete a game. Thats the point of the game! Thats why there are hidden points around the game! You have to really get them to top your last high score. You cant say its easy and just walk through it, without getting all the secret points, thats like 'finishing' mario64 without getting all the stars!! It makes you crave more. Thats what slug is beautiful for.
