If it were up to me I'd get RBS, but I'll explain the differences.
Real Bout FF - You can pick every character except for Wolfgang Krauser. There are three fighting planes. Many attacks will connect in all three fighting planes including Terry's Power Geyser. The graphics are a little poorer compared to RBS and RB2. The chain combos are great for most characters. You can win a match by destroying the objects at the edge of the screen and knocking your opponent out of bounds. Fights are fought in the middle plane most of the time.
Real Bout FFS - You can pick all characters including Nightmare Geese using a cheat. There are two fighting planes. You can choose which fighting plane you want to fight in, this gives you the ability to perform chain combos in which you can knock your opponent from plane to plane and give chase.I thought RBS had the best chain combos out of all three games because of this. Destroying the objects at the edges of the screen in this game will just stun your opponent. You can also pick shadow versions of certain characters and watch some comical skits during the credits.

Real Bout FF2 - All characters come back including two new ones. There are no breakable objects at the edges of the screen. There are two fighting planes, fights are fought in the front plane mainly. The chain combos for each character has changed, Terry's combos for example are a lot poorer to those featured in RBS. Many characters gain new attacks and many lose attacks from RBS to RB2. RB2 had no pre-fight animations <img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" /> . You could only see your win pose after you won the second round. The P Powers in this game look a lot better. Many characters have adopted new P Powers. In RBS for many characters there wasn't much difference between their S Power and P Power. The screen also flashes for a micro second when performing a P Power.
Basically it's a toss up between RBS and RB2. I think some characters are better in RB2 (Blue Mary), whilst others are better in RBS (Terry, Mai). Even so some characters where best in RB(Andy).![]()

Good review, thanks BigFred!![]()
I have many games in my "Wanted" list (MS4, ROTD, Sengoku 3), but I've been thinking about buying a Real Bout game for a while. I hope I can get Real Bout Special soon...
