Fatal Fury-Good I sorta liked it more that FF2(better characters.) 8.1/10
Fatal Fury 2-Good It's fast and more playable chracters( Kap has arrived!!) 8/10
Fatal Fury Special-The cream of the crop of the first games. It is so damn cool. Super fast and fluid. It doesn't get much better than this. 10/10
FF3, RB,RB Special, RB2 I have yet to play.
Garou: MotW- NO matter how much I love this game I end up hating it. No Joe, Andy or Kap make me mad. And Terry's new look is so halfassed. I love Rock, Dong, Jae and Marco(Khusnood) so it is almost made up for. No plane shifting also hurts it in my opinion. And that god awful cheap AI in Survival mode doesn't help either . 5/10

I just got Fatal Fury today in the mail. I have so many fond memories of playing it on genesis back in the day. The games atmosphere is really really cool. My favorite Fatal fury out of all of them is Real Bout. IMO that one has the fastest gameplay. Garou is pretty good, but I can't get past the lack of characters.

I like FF1...the gameplay may be shit, but some of the backgrounds and music themes are simply great.
And the character voices are unique :D

Hell yeah, the Fatal Fury series rocks. I've played all the 2D games: FF, FF2, FFS, FF3, RB, RBS, RB2 and Garou: MotW.

I created a topic in the gameplay section about the plane shifting being removed from Garou: MotW. In my opinion this was by far the worst thing they could have done to the game. I mean it was a good game, but it's not the same. The one thing that made the FF series original was the plane shifting. I also got annoyed that Terry was the only guy that returned from the original series. What happened to Hon-Fu, Duck King, Billy Kane, Andy, Joe or even Rick Strowd (big disappointment). They also got rid of the chain combos featured in Real Bout.

As for Fatal Fury 1 itself, it felt like I was fighting a boss in every match. I thought that was cool. Most characters would reveal a secret technique: whether it was becoming super fast by taking a quick drink or going from a weak old man to a huge powerhouse. Billy Kane himself was almost unstoppable until he lost his fighting staff.

Real bout 2- excellent
Fatal fury special- nearly excellent
Garou the mark of the wolwes- nice...
Fatal fury 3- very nice!
the others are nothing special....
real bout 1 and special are only betas of Real bout 2 IMHO..
fatal fury 3 is better just because is the first of the real bout saga...
Ff 1 and 2 are overaged...too old...

I would like to buy one game from the Real Bout series, but I don't know wich one. Any suggestion?
It would be great to see Fatal Fury 4, Real Bout 3, Mark of the Wolves 2 or something like that.

There are two things i thought were reaslly cool in fatal fury when i first played it about ten years ago and that was the fact that the whole characters name was spoken and that richard myer could jump on the ceiling apart from that though it was a bit lame and the fucking bonus arm wrestles were as hard as fuck, i have fondest memories of fatal fury 2 :)

If it were up to me I'd get RBS, but I'll explain the differences.

Real Bout FF - You can pick every character except for Wolfgang Krauser. There are three fighting planes. Many attacks will connect in all three fighting planes including Terry's Power Geyser. The graphics are a little poorer compared to RBS and RB2. The chain combos are great for most characters. You can win a match by destroying the objects at the edge of the screen and knocking your opponent out of bounds. Fights are fought in the middle plane most of the time.

Real Bout FFS - You can pick all characters including Nightmare Geese using a cheat. There are two fighting planes. You can choose which fighting plane you want to fight in, this gives you the ability to perform chain combos in which you can knock your opponent from plane to plane and give chase. I thought RBS had the best chain combos out of all three games because of this. Destroying the objects at the edges of the screen in this game will just stun your opponent. You can also pick shadow versions of certain characters and watch some comical skits during the credits. :D

Real Bout FF2 - All characters come back including two new ones. There are no breakable objects at the edges of the screen. There are two fighting planes, fights are fought in the front plane mainly. The chain combos for each character has changed, Terry's combos for example are a lot poorer to those featured in RBS. Many characters gain new attacks and many lose attacks from RBS to RB2. RB2 had no pre-fight animations . You could only see your win pose after you won the second round. The P Powers in this game look a lot better. Many characters have adopted new P Powers. In RBS for many characters there wasn't much difference between their S Power and P Power. The screen also flashes for a micro second when performing a P Power.

Basically it's a toss up between RBS and RB2. I think some characters are better in RB2 (Blue Mary), whilst others are better in RBS (Terry, Mai). Even so some characters where best in RB(Andy).

Let's see coming from a guy who plays way too much Garou Densetsu. I would say it's like this for me.

Fatal Fury - Classic Game loads of simple fun and memories.

Fatal Fury 2 - Good game. Was nice to have a lot more control from the original title.

Fatal Fury Special - One of the FF games I still rate very high on the scale of not only fun but being able to do some freaky combos. It should be noted this game had cancels into SDMs which at the time was something totally unheard of. :)

Fatal Fury 3 - Introduction of Yamazaki & Blue Mary. Game is fun but for n00bs it's a major pain in the arse what with the AI programmed to be a tightass. :D

Real Bout - Return of Billy Kane and a slight hint of the whole premise of the KoF series. I liked this game a lot even tho not too many people were fond of the concept of 'Ring out'. I have to add that this title has a single music track on it for Billy Kane that was never, ever used in any other Fatal Fury game again. It was a shame too considering I liked the piece more than I do his other ones. :)

Real Bout Special - Return of Krauser and also seems to have gone a nice upgrade with stage backgrounds, effect and overall presentation. The EX characters were a nice touch along with 'Nightmare Geese' for those of you scrubs out there that thought Geese couldn't get any worse. :)

Real Bout 2 - Introduction of Li Xiang Fei and Rick Strowd. One of the FF games in which the BG's were not a lot better than the previous games. They added a nice flashing effect for Hyper SDM's and the introduction of Alfred as a NPC was nice as well. Of course for those of you with a Debug home bios inyour neo, You can thankfully play him. ;)

Garou: Mark of the Wolves - I play this title more than any other. It's the tried and true answer that SNK made some fucking great hadware and it shows in this title. For me it's all about Gato. :D

Good review, thanks BigFred! :)
I have many games in my "Wanted" list (MS4, ROTD, Sengoku 3), but I've been thinking about buying a Real Bout game for a while. I hope I can get Real Bout Special soon...
