Okay, I know I'm late playing this game, but it does rock IMO. Sure I'm an SNK guy to the bone but I believe in giving props where they're due. Backgrounds, animation, sprites, parrying, the whole thing really comes together well and in a unique way.

Couple questions...

There are some similarites with LB2 (production art opening, LB2 2nd stage BG almost identical), who copied who this time?

Also, I'm playing the DC version, so how much better/worse is the arcade original?

the big difference between the DC rev and the arcade vesion is that the characters are more pixelated in the dc rev than in the arcade. other than that they are prety much identical.

3rd strike IS a great port and unless you played the arcade a lot, you won't be able to tell with the characters. you might want to try sf3:di as well. it has better backgrounds and IMO, a cleaner look to it than 3s does. btw garg, your site kicks ass.
reading your samsho2 review almost brought a tear to my eye in nostalgia (playing the game from 6:00 to closing at a fuddruckers in my neighborhood).

If you look on the other boards, you will see that I'm a huge fan of Third Strike. I still feel that the first SF3 has the best backgrounds.

Third Strike "owns".

I ask this question ALL the time, still hoping someone has found one. An Action Replay code to make this game run faster like in turbo mode. DI has the option to select your speed, 3rd strike doesn't - BAH!

Hey, I agree with you on 3rd Strike, it really rocks. I got the arcade pcb for it and the dc version. However, the dc is not a perfect port, I have to say it is about 80% to the actual arcade version. I did a comparison and I noticed that it is not pixel to pixel perfect, sprites are slightly smaller for the larger characters and Twelve's animation is not as smooth and fluid like in the arcade and the backgrounds really look bland in comparison. It also seems to be running at 30fps while the arcade is 60fps.

It was sort of disappointing since Capcom did such a good job with SF3 I, but fell a little short on porting 3rd Strike.

Hey Trunks, about how much does the CPS3 hardware cost?? A lot of people sell the CPS2 but I don't see a lot of CPS3's for sale.

Are you kidding, I see CPS3 games all over the place, mostly Jpn though. I picked up 3rd Strike for $300 4 months ago, you should be able to buy one for $250 now. Warzard the first CPS3 games goes for $100-$150, JoJo 1 and 2 are about $100-$175, and SF3 is about $50-$75, and 2nd Impact is about $100-$150. Too bad Capcom won't be making anymore games on this system even with their recent batch of more longer lasting economical non-CD CPS3 pcbs. Check out ebay, they seem to have them there.

Ah yes, the CPS3. Wonderful potential, its so sad its dead Anyways, yes the DC version of all the SF3 games are GREAT. You will enjoy them no doubt. The only thing is they are not arcade perfect because as others have stated already, the characters are slightly smaller, less defined, and some less(a tiny bit less, mind you) animated. I have to have perfect, so I have the arcade board and the DC also. I wish I had the whole collection of the arcade boards though(only got the first SF3).

Trunks- I noticed the standalone CPS3 unit also, I guess its just a dedicated CPS3 eh?

Yeah, it is a dedicated CPS3, but was only made for the Jpn 3rd Strike in limited quantities. This is the 3rd Strike pcb I have. It is basically the Motherboard without the CD. However, I didn't see any added ROM or such. It does have extra RAM chips than any previous CPS3 game. I haven't seen the regular CD version, so I don't know how different they are.

Is it true that CPS3 CD games have to take a long time to load up? I heard 1/2 hour.

It's true. SFIII New Generation takes a half hour. I'll bet Third Strike takes even longer...

They only do on the first time. After that it's quick.

Or after you swap carts + cds.

L trigger. These codes take off certain filters that make the graphics a bit fuzzy, and another makes it low res... these actually do make the graphics a lot sharper!

To me it is not fair to compare DC version (or on any platform) with arcade. They are different. DC has done its best and I'm happy with my copy.

LB 2 and 3rd strike share the same CG intro.....both style are very similar....

Maybe both companies share the same artist?

when you load up the game, before the capcom screen appears,do either one of your favourite codes and you could notice the difference between the way you saw it before and the way you see it now.

again,one more time:
X + start
Y + start
L + start.

Just beat Gill's ass with Akuma, and his ending shows a freight ship named the CPS-3

Hmmm, I didn't know Akuma came from the sea....

That's also how the Taito G-Net motherboard works as well- somewhat like CPS III but with no CD and with PCMCIA-type cards in lieu of carts. After swapping the card, it takes a couple of minutes to load. As long as you don't change the game, it takes perhaps 8 seconds to boot up from there.
