Hi

I have just got myself a new Jamma machine, it is 4 button, and has a nice big screen, but I am thinking of moving the buttons on the control panel, what is your ideal button setup, I will be using it for fighting games. RBFF2, KOF95 & SS4.
Also you never hear much about KOF97, was it a dud? or just overshadowed by KOF98, is it better than KOF95?

Thanks, Led*Zep

My ideal button setup would be the same as the Neo-Geo's, with the buttons A-D set up from left to right.

Actually, King of Fighters 97 did get a bit of attention, but yeah, it was overshadowed for the most part. Don't let the lack of attention fool you, though. It's a great game, better than KOF '95. Some people even say it's better than KOF '98, but not me. KOF '98 is the pinnacle of the classic KOF series (by classic, I'm referring to '94-'98), fusing the best elements from each series into one massive, well-planned game.

Crazy enough... KoF '97 is the only version I've ever played. The arcade in my town had it for a while. I THINK I saw another KoF when I was in Indonesia and Singapore, but I chose not to play. The arcades had a notorious reputation for having many broken buttons and joysticks. I thought '97 was pretty damn good though.

As for button lay-outs... I'd go with the standard Neo-Geo 4-in-a-row too. I personally have two different sets. Two controllers with 7 buttons (4 on top for Neo-Geo, 3 on bottom for Street Fighter). And another 2 controllers with 4 buttons (2 on top, 2 on bottom, off-set). These are of course controllers for my supergun, not a cabinet. So sadly I have no standard Neo-Geo controls myself. :(

I would find Capcom style (arranged in a square rather than a straight line) easiest, but I never see an SNK game with that setup... <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

Thanks for the advice, think I will look at some of the Neo-Geo machines on the web, but I think the 4 buttons in a row will be the best bet, as that was the style the games where designed for.
