Hyper 64,Please tell me all about it.
I hear of members buying these.
What is a Hyper 64?
What can I do with a Hyper 64?
I read some things about it but I still don't understand what it is.
Is it a system,cab?
What does the carts look like?
What do the Hyper 64's usually run in cost.
If I bought one what do I need to hook it up?

I've seen pictures of a big machine with a steering wheel on it that says Hyper 64.

Please inform me on this?

:p

The hyper 64 is a mother board w/cartridges like the MVS, all games are in 3D. If you have any other questions check the hyper 64 forum. ;)

Hyper64 stuff is generally a bit pricey, but not nearly so much as rarer AES stuff. I currently have two Hyper64 carts (Buruki One and Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition), but no board to play them on. The boards do come up on eBay once in a while, but they are usually quite expensive because this platform was such a colassal flop, that not many were manufactured (the Hyper64 had either 4 or 6 games in total released I think.) If you want to know what the carts look like, let m eknow and I can take some pictures of mine for you. Like the original Neo-Geo carts, they're fairly big. These ones are thin and also have a metal outer casing with the SNK logo stamped into it. They look rugged. This platform was a major contributing factor to SNK running out of money sooner rather than later because it cost tons to develop and was already way behind the times when it came out.

Thank you.
I've seen carts like you described on ebay they are pretty expensive.
Are you going to get the board to play them on?

You could sent the pictures if you like that would be cool.
Thanks for all the info

I do plan to buy a board yes. I'm working on restoring a JAMMA arcade cabinet right now and when that's done (as soon as I figure out how to wire up the new harness ), one of the boards I hope to obtain is a Hyper64. If you're willing to be patient and search a bit, you can find them around, but depending on who is selling them, you might have to spend a fair bit. It's kind of a neat collector's item as it is very rare and has kind of a freaky status because it had such a short lifespan, but it certainly doesn't have the following of the other Neo-Geo systems and probably won't appreciate in value very much. But that freaky status it has is one of the reasons I want it so much. :D

I'll take some pics of my carts and post links to them in a bit.

OK, here's links to the pics of my Hyper64 carts:

Both Carts
Buruki One Close-Up
Fatal Fury Wild Ambition Close-Up
Cartridge Back (A Bit Blurry)

I reduced the picture quality a bit for size, but they're still 250K+ each so brace yourself if you're on dial-up. They're also 1600x1200+ images, but if you're using Internet Explorer, it should auto-resize them when they're downloaded. As you can see, these things look pretty durable and tough. Hopefully these things will work once I get a board to put them in. :D

I just got my Hyper recently and it is definitely worth tracking down. Mine came NM/M condition with both SS kits. I only have to get FF:WA and Buruki One to complete the collection. Ebay does get them now and then. If you want one at a decent price, try emailing MD Game Sales Inc. for one. I know Mike has some and at great prices. Usually they come with a game or two. I an not sure if Vektor Logic is still selling them though.

Good luck on your search!

Glad I could help! I definitely recommend checking out the Hyper64 section of these forums for some more info. It's not terribly busy, but there's some interesting stuff in there. I probably won't be buying any new stuff for a while as my credit cards are too fat and I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet. I'll probably pick up a board in the new year though.

Hehehe, oddly enough, the Samurai Shodown carts are the ones I'm missing for my own lineup. :) I'm not sure is MD Game Sales still has any Hyper64 systems or not, but I will make sure to check into them when I'm ready to buy one. They're getting out of Neo-Geo though and they may not have any left when I'm ready to buy. I read in another thread that Vektorlogic is apparently getting out of the collector market and will only deal with the industry so we may be stuck there. I do know some guys at a local amusement supplier though and could likely get them to order one on my behalf. We'll have to see what happens. They do come up on eBay occasionally though.
