I was thinking about this whole Neo scene yesterday evening and how I was a neo fan back in 92-94 but not as hard core as many of the long standing members were. I only became "hard core" when I signed up. I am considered a newbie by the forum member # alone, which I think is both true and false depending on one's perspective. I decided to go more in depth as I see a lot of newer members joining but not taking the time to really delve into the Neo and its community and what has made it stronger/weaker.
I read through the NGF bible, which outlines and gives specific examples of how Dion and Chris of NGF exploited the Neo and its fan base and I was disgusted at it really. I also read through as much as I could of the old Neo Geo mailing list. I started at 94 and went to 2001. It was funny to see the progression of Dion's and Chris' lies and deception as the list grew. I realized the deep-seeded anger and resentment some of the board members here have for these individuals as well as anyone who scams in general.
I think it would be a good idea for some of the newer members if they really cared about the scene to check out its history through the old mailing lists. Do other research on the net. It gives you a greater sense of appreciation for what we have here on the boards today and an appreciation of how hard many of early members have worked to get it that way.
Just something to think about
