I know its illegal to sell bootleg carts for obvious and unobvious reasons, but what about selling 'bootleg' mini marquees? Iknow that people sell them here and there and there seems to be no flack on it, so how come no one has a business of it? And if you had a business of it, how hard would it be to make the real thing? Its just a pic on a thick transparancy, right? And why is there such a shortage of mini's? I see loose MVS carts all over ebay. Why why why? Aahhh, to feel five years old again...

Question was anwsered. This post can be deleted. Thanks guys.

Yes, it is illegal to sell copied marquees, they can, however, be given away for free with a cart. The idea is that they were illegally reproduced, and are copyrighted works and images of SNK or their respective copyright holders.

I think the reason there are so many loose carts out there is that most arcade operators didn't care about marquees or extras... They were discarded when they were done with the game, or are in a box in the corner of a warehouse somewhere...

Then I wish there were more 'generous' people out there. I wonder if SNK (Playmore) would ever sell limited rights to the production of their marquees? Or is there just enough market to wish, and not enough to follow through? Eh, it would probably mess up the value of rare kits, huh? Oh well, seemed harmless... :o
Thanks for the reply

Yes, it is illegal. And against the law. I've seen many people get arrested for bootlegging copyrighted stuff on TV. Like I said, bootlegging is not cool. It is not cool. Don't buy bootlegged stuff. If you do have it, get rid of it.

I can't see how it would be economical to sell copied MM's. To print off decent copies you'd need a colour laser printer and you won't get one of those for less the £500. You'd have to sell a hell of a lot of MM's to make a profit.

Given away? Yeah, as Nick said, no problem.

Selling them? well, think about that for a second: it's like taking a copyrigted poster, copying it, then selling it. of course it would be illegal.
