I just bought a neo geo yesterday, and I am looking for a good shooter for the game. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, because I only have 1 of each left after buying the system and a KOF2000 cart. I'm interested mostly in fighting games and shooter games (puzzle games as well to a lesser extent) and was wondering what game can have me shooting nameless objects at a price I can afford? Thank you in advance, Alec

You can buy the classics "last resort" or "pulstar"
Try also blazing star..
I hope you have a memory card.

pulstar and blazing star have way to big price tags, last resort is fun, i forgot about it, but the one time I played it I had alot of fun. I've never played ghost pilots before, I should look into it. thanks. Yeah, I should probably get a memory card for those games as the aes system only gives you 4 credits. thanks I never thought about how vital a memory card would be.

has anyone here played alpha mission 2 or aero fighters 2, what are those like, can you recommend them?

thanks

Ghost Pilots is a cool game and very fun, doesn't require a memory card either because it has unlimited credits on the Neo Geo system. If you are interested in it just shoot me a pm. I have a japanese version if you're interested.

Alec,

Look into buying a phantom1 mvs->aes converter then those expensive games drop down around $40-60 a piece mvs. They are supposed to play identical to their aes counterparts drool_2
Anyways welcome to the neo boards :)

Yeah, I've been thinking about a phantom 1 because my friend has an mvs cab, and we could trade games and all. A phantom 1 would also mean I could play garou, which is one of my favorite neo games. however, I have heard several people say that the phantom will screw up the slot in your AES system, and I don't really want to do that. Does anyone here have phantom experience? or maybe some more shooter suggestions. thanks for the advice droid!

Balzing Star is simply great. It is a lot of fun and trying to beat the game/get high scores with the different ships can keep you occupied for quite some time.

What about any of the Metal Slug Series, Zed Blade, Captain Tomaday, Prehistoric Isle 2, and Shock Troopers.

There are many great shooters for the Neo Geo!!

Welcome to the boards,
Robert

I like the shooters too so I picked up Last Resort, Sonic Wings 2, and Viewpoint with my soon to arrive AES sytem. Sonic Wings 2 is the same as Aero Fighters 2 I believe, I'll know soon.

Blazing Star is a great game, one I hope to add to my collection one day. Andro Dunos and Pulstar are a few others. And Ghost Pilots is a classic IMO, another in my must find list.

With no mention of any Slugs or Shock Troppers I'd say the Neo Geo has a fair amount of good shooters. It's just not a fighter fan's console wink

congrats on your aes system skeeter. hope you enjoy it as much as I will mine. I've got KOF2000, magician lord, and ninja combat coming my way, so hopefully I will enjoy those.

is andros dunos a good game? whats it like? I saw the cart in the cart pics section, and the cover looks cool, so It makes me want to know more.

The best shootem-ups on the Neo are the pricey ones, sorry to say. But they are well worth the cost if you ask me. The cheap shooters are good too, but something like Ghost Pilots or Alpha Mission II just don't stack up to the likes of Blazing Star, or Sonic Wings 2,3. Just my opinion of course.

Well Alpha Mission 2 and Ghost Pilots are great shooters to get at an afforable price. You wont be dissapointed with those games. It all depends on how much you wanna spend on a game price range? Some of the best shooters are the expensive ones but worth it. My friend just bought Metal Slug X last week and he got it today. The odd time I buy the expensive cart as I would like the original.

Also about the Phantom-1 I havent had any problems with mine and I have 9 MVS carts. They all work perfectly. Just got Shock Troopers MVS cart today. That game is a must play and you should buy this game. :D Plus you will save money if you have the Phantom-1 on games like Blazing Star, Pulstar, Ninja Masters and Last Blade 2 to name a few. I would recommend in getting one if you wanna save some money. Hope this helps! smirk

I've never played it so I can't comment on how good it is. It looks interesting though and I like shooters. I'd be interested to hear from those who have played it as well.

It's good to see this many shooters mentioned. Many think of the Neo Geo as a 2D fighting machine and although it excels in that regard, there's more to it than that.

shock troopers is a great game, my friend had it in his mvs cab and we played the hell out of it. hmm, maybe I should look into the phantom 1 a bit more.

Well, Neo Geo home cartridge shooters + cheap price = not many chances. Basically Alpha Mission 2, Ghost Pilots and Last Bade.

Ghost Pilots: Well, it is very challenging, and you can have fun with it, but it is nothing special. It’s an old game. It practically has no replay value. You can buy better plane shooters in for other systems.

Alpha Mission 2: Well, perhaps better than GP, but again is an old game.

Last Blade: Challenging game, it evokes R-Type quite a lot, great atmosphere, it looks great even though it is an old release.

Forget about Pulstar and Blazing Star Home carts, they are going to cost you one of your legs and part of the other.

The Sonic Wing series are good to, but you will be very lucky if you find a Sonic Wings 2 in Mint Shape for less than 130 USD. These two are cheap in CD.

If you are looking for a commando type shooter then your best chance (because of price) should be Metal Slug 3 or 4, in this order, but be prepared to spend at least 250 USD.
