Okay i've obviously heard of and played 'Metal Slug' (who hasn't here!), but only the very 1st one on the arcades a looong loooooong time ago!

Since then I've not really followed the Metal Slug series, so i just needed to know a few things. Well err maybe more than a few things..

1. What is the difference between 'Metal Slug' and 'Metal Slug X'???
Is the storyline all the same except there's extra things in the 'X' version????????
I ask this because 'Metal Slug X' has just come out on the UK PSX! SWEET! And would like to know what i'll be missing out on playing from 'MS X' onwards.

2. IF 'MS X' is different, is it really reeeally worth spending thousands on just for the 1st Metal Slug AES version????!!???

3. Will Metal Slug 3 eventually come out in the USA or UK on PS2?? I know the Japanese version is out for a while now on the PS2.

4. Will any other Metal Slugs come out on PSX/PS2 in English?? (please do chuck in useful websites for release info if any! Thanks!)
This is so I know what I should bother getting on English AES cart, and get the rest of the ENGLISH versions real cheap on PS2/PSX or whatever.

!!THANK YOU FOR HELPING METAL SLUG SOLDIERS!!

Metal Slug X is a remixed Metal Slug 2 with some Metal Slug (1) bosses.

Any Metal Slug is worth getting except 4 ( My opinion only ). Now about those thousands... it's only up to you... or your pocket !

They're cheap in the MVS form. and plays the same.

Possibly MS3 will someday see the light on a US PS2. I'm not sure tough. wink

I think that's a bit messed up 'MS X' being mixed up with 1 and 2. Im no person to speak on Metal Slug anyways I hardly know anything about it. Its just sounds odd mixing 2 games up(???!??).

Hmmm if it's a remix of 2 with 1 bosses, then err what story line does the game follow up on then?? Please let me know on this one!

Well I sure as hell won't be spending thousands on the 1st game anyways.
MVS sounds good! I've got a supergun so I may go for Metal Slug 1 MVS. Anything is cheaper than Metal Slug AES gamewise (except Kizuna I hear!).

So MVS it is to sort the 1st one out! 'Just' 2, 3 and 4 to go!

ANYONE WITH MORE INFO AND TIPS DROP IN!

CHEERS! :)

Yeah, Metal Slug 3 will come out, at least according to Ben Herman as well as this GameStop link: http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=280873

Good work, you guys are saving me a quite a bin!
So now that's Metal Slug AES in the Bin for MVS version, Metal Slug X AES in the Bin for the UK PSX version, and now a possible English MS3 coming soon for PS2.

Looks like it's AES MS2 and MS4 to get that's gonna burn my pockets and i'll be up to date with MS series!

Keep the info coming!

MS2 English a bit pricey and rare I see!
Hmm we'll see how things are when I start collecting all the MS. Not all AES though otherwise I'll be broke onto the streets!

Thanks again!

Hey, I've gotta warn ya, you be hard pressed to find a worse conversion than the metal slugs for playstation. Slug 1 is completely unplayable because of the load time. Slug x somewhat fixes the problem, making it playable by putting the load times in better places than the middle of the levels.

Both have tremendously inferior graphics and sound when compaired to the neo version. why is the sound so bad when the playstation is a cd based system is beyond me? playing slug 1 on psx is a chore for me, slug x is leaps and bounds over slug 1, but still leaves alot to be desired.

I think your best choice would be to either buy the mvs carts, or wait for slug3 on ps2, because the more advanced hardware and faster cd drive will surely make it more enjoyable than the ps1 versions.

Also, I haven't played it, but I've heard that the Saturn version of Slug 1 is supposed to be really good, but it can get rather expensive in comparison to other saturn games.

Dam so MSX doesn't really stay up to the standards of the AES eh! I don't even want to think about MS1 on the PSX from what you've said!

But I'm now wondering why the UK version of MSX after so many years got a release after the US on PSX!?? Could it be possible that they could have made the UK version run a lot better hence the huge delay???
Well I'll let everyone know when I buy the dam thing!

Quite a few people have mentioned MVS, that is another good option.

I never went for the Saturn version as it was Japanese only (im very fussy when it comes to language unfortunately). Hmm i never understand why people don't port over good fucking games into the UK and US.
And what do people end up with on the PSX/PS2 in the UK??? Bob the Builder, Tweenies, Britney's Dance Beats, Mary-Kate and Ashley ahhh what the FUCK!!! What's wrong with Metal Slug and many other great games across many consoles that never made it here I will never understand! Maybe Metal Slug wasn't crap enough to qualify for a release in the UK, i don't know.

Ohh yes someone please answer this. I know now that MSX is MS2 but with MS1 bosses! But which storyline does it go with!!???? 1?? 2??? Or just a unique one made just for X??????? PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER this. Cheers!

Pheew. Anyways any more info I should know about Metal Slug series drop it in!

Japanese action games tend to be mostly in English, you know! I'd go for the Saturn Metal Slug for sure if I didn't have the MVS one already.

I have both the MVS and PSX versions of Metal Slug.

I don't really see what all the fuss is about concerning loading, etc. I usually play the PS version on an LCD screen, and I think it looks and plays damn good. angry

As far as the Japanese/English thing goes, the only text I can recall in Metal Slug 1 in Engrish (Mission All Over!) and like someone said earlier, usually action games are 100% English.

From what I hear the Saturn is a really nice port, although if you have the means to play the MVS cartridge, the two versions cost about the same, so if I were you I'd just get the MVS one.

Hmm some mixed feelings about the PSX version of Metal Slug/X. I've still not bought the UK version yet to see if anything has improved!
(But will let you guys know when I do! I shall see about these poor graphics and sounds and the big loading times.)

Looks like it's thumbs up for the MVS versions!
Suppose I could use Gamefaqs as my English game manual. Even though I don't need it I think. It's only a 3 button game right? I bet it's got some sneaky 2 button press moves or something ha! I suppose all Neo-Geo games have them 'How to play' screen that pop's up before you start a game.

Errr but no ones still answered my question??? WHICH 'STORYLINE' DOES METAL SLUG X follow. Im assuming MS2 even though i've been told it has MS1 bosses. BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER THIS! THANKSSS YOU! phhewww...

Keep up the good info on MS, especially on hot MS series with a possible release on UK/US PS2 release etc!

!!THANKS AGAIN METAL SLUG SOLDIERS!!

Metal Slug 3 is the best Metal Slug out there, right now. Metal Slug X is jus' upgraded version of 2. Metal Slug 2 had a lot of slowdown because of a lot of sprites on the screen at once. Metal Slug X fixed this problem and plays a hell of lot better than 2. I'd recommend getting them on the MVS carts, than the AES carts. If you want to get the AES carts, you better have a lot of money.

Hmmm icic. I think the MVS carts is the best option to go for collecting the MS series, just about everyone has recommended it (that's probably because it's a bomb to buy the AES versions!!!), and will be just the same quality as AES unless it's a dodgey version.

Ohh yes for those of you who need to know about the English UK PSX copy of Metal Slug X that was just released a week ago... FUCKING COOL!

Although I have to admit there were a few drawbacks to it, but I didn't take notice of at all once I got into the game.
1st down side was that there are horrible borders across the screen as the game start up logo etc etc comes on. Common back in the old days for rushed game ports into the UK!

2nd I don't know what the options are like for the AES version but the options I have to say are a bit tacky. Okay it's only the options after all but it got my attention!

3rd loading times - which im not going to complain about as I'll explain in a bit, but a fussy subject for pure blooded AES owners!

Good things!!
For a PSX console that was never superior than the Saturn when it came to 2D games I have to say the loading times are fast!! 3 seconds, and rarely 4 seconds max! Err there's one catch to this speed... I was playing it on the PS2 with the game enhancements on!...Doh! I don't know how slow it truley is as I don't own a cruddy old PSX, but it's fast on the PS2 for sure! I know a few people have complained about the loading times, but I sure am not. No sir 3 secs is fine for me, and it shows some nice little pics while loading which by the time you look at it all the game has started! Loading times occur once the level & sub levels are complete of course!

How I was complaing about the borders before on the title screen etc, well thank god that all goes away once you get into the game! Pheeew!

Graphics I can remember someone not too happy about. Well err let's just say im playing it on a 42" Plasma screen using Component cables by 'Monster' with the enhancement graphics switched on the PS2. So I can't give a fair review there. Although even playing it on a normal PSX and TV I think it would still look good. But from what I see it's all crisp and awesome animation!

Sound again I can't really be fair on, I've got a couple of grands worth of Cinema surround system which im not going to babble into which im using. To my ears it's all top quality 2nd World War Beethoven shit!
(I like to spend a lot on hooking up my games to quality equipment, rather than trying to buy expensive games, playing it once and then chuck it on collection shelf which is what im trying to avoid!)

Gameplay there's no slowdowns from what I can see! Everything runs smooth! When the action get's heavy with bullets flying at you from everywhere and enenmies and yourself moving about all over the shop there's no slow down in speed it's all sweet!

I don't think the AES version has this and don't know about the US Jap PSX copy, but you get shit loads of art gallery, sub missions/training, and there might be more I didn't check it out properly!

All I can say now is that this is not AES/Arcade pefect of course, that's for sure! But the game is still dam good and defenetly worth getting on the PSX rather than spending 100's of dollars just for the AES!! You won't be missing much at all trust me!

Anwyays enough babbling.

There ya go!
