I wasn't around these boards when ROTD was released, but from what I gather, it was pretty hyped. I've witnessed the Matrimelee home cart release come and go, and there wasn't much excitement. Well I really shouldn't say that, but no where near the SvC fevor. So are we getting to over worked about this, which I think we are, or does SvC warrant this much excitement. Anyways, I gotta get to my 'cade and find out if they have it yet, I have to try this game out. smirk

Maybe you're asking the wrong question.

Try this:

"Will the let down be as big as that of ROTD?"

or maybe

"Hey look the emperor's wearing his spring outfit*"

I would likely say no, but I have played the game and it's nice, but not up to the hype. I know we only get a few releases a year, but Neo people (especially this hardcore crowd) over talk games that on ANY other system would be OK and though of as such. But since it's all we are getting we eat it up.

The new SNK joins the ranks of companies like Agetec or Conspiracy Entertainment as a low budget developer and it shows... this is an OK title, but nothing like the old SNK stuff. Recycled sprites, moves and animations abound in this very KOF-looking title. Thoough the Capcom characters looks pretty slick (I presume Capcom would not let the game out until their properties were up to spec)... still I will buy it.
It's just not the most amazing thing ever, I'm just calling it as I see it... you may see it differently. No flames, please. ;-)

*-if you've not heard the story that probably made no sense

It definitely warrants this much excitement.
This is a day most of us thought would never come.
I for one thought Neo Geo fans were going to be left disappointed,as usual when SNK went out of business. This is thee only release I'm really concerned about right now. As far as I'm concerned...KOF can't be topped,Metal SLug can't be topped, this Sam Sho will not top previous installments.
This release is the 1st of it's kind on the PRO-GEAR SPEC and that alone is special.

I have played this game before, and I'm kinda skeptical about preordering it myself. As much as I would like to buy it, my arcade experience with it was very akward. Part of the game I thought was brilliant, and alot of it was dissapointing. The game itself isn't too much different from KOF, and while the dash cancels are ingenious, I think it could have done without the super cancels. Yes, I think this game is worth 325, and I am very tempted to pay it on a preorder, but I think I might need that money for other investments between now and october.

Jeeze people, of course SVC is not the most amazing fighting game ever. Its on 13 year old hardware, that still has a 12-bit color palette. There are no hundreds of polygons, no dolby 5.1 quad stereo, jeeze the CPU clock is only 12MHZ and runs on a 68K, a chip that is older than some of us. bla bla bla.

Its so obvious that this is not the best and most amazing fighting game ever, so why do you people reiterate that it is or is not?

Is this game a quality product? Most people seem to think so. GREAT! Is this game disappointing at all? Some people seem to think so. OK.

But let bygons be bygons, be logical about all this, and still remind ourselves that this is still a piece of silicon artwork we call a videogame that who's organized photons and audio emissions create a certain stimuli in our brains that transcend into what we all crave... a little bit of fun.

Remember... fun... And when you boil it all down to the precipitate, all what these games are all about, and why the vast majority of why we are all here is that they are fun. Nothing more, nothing less.

And that can be a very good thing.

people ive spoken to say that the only reason they dont like chaos as much as the hardcore neo people is because the people in the arcades play too cheap.

ive played it and think that it does deserve most of the hype its geting. who cares how old the hardware is? all the chars look amazing and its awsome to see capcom chars in the snk style.

I agree. Let's enjoy the game for what it is. We've been waiting for so long(maybe too long) for this. Let's not spoil all of that by complaining over what is a good game.
