Yes there are plenty of other games that are great and have great music too but these games I feel aren't groundbreaking anymore but their audio just still kicks ass, and compels me to play them once in a while:

Alpha Mission II
Cyber-lip
Eightman
Sengoku 1
Sengoku 2

What do you guys think? What games can you think of that apply to this idea for you?

definitely Zed Blade.

I couldn't stand the game at first, but one day I gave it another try on an emulator and realized it had some friggin awesome tunes. I actually started to accept the game for what it was just so I could listen to the music, which then inspired me to hunt down a copy on MVS (which took a while).

Now... well, it's definitely not one of the best shooters ever made. But it does meet my criteria for being playable/finishable on one credit (fuck you, Ghost Pilots), so I probably have a higher opinion of it than most people who have played it.

Galaxy Fight should make this list, for me anyway. Love the graphics, character design, the ideas and settings, and the cool tunes, but damn does it suck to play. It's a crying shame so much got sank into the visuals and music and the gameplay got left on the back burner.

Also worth noting:
King of the Monsters 2
Crossed Swords 2
Mutation Nation
Ninja Combat
Fatal Fury 3

I thought AOF1 had great music and sound effects. It's probably the worst game in my library though, in terms of animation and gameplay. Heck, even MD3 has better animation.

Apparently, you're not a shmupper. Alpha Mission II, besides having ass shaking music, is the best shooter on the Neo, bar none. What it sacrificies in graphics, it makes up for 100 fold in gameplay.

Fatal Fury 3 and KOF '99.

They both have great artwork, backgrounds and soundtracks,
but gameplay-wise they feel stiff and unresponsive.

In fact, that's the only reason why I still occasionally pop in
a few games of '99, just to admire the sharp new artwork
and the hard-pounding BGM tracks.

I'd much rather play '98 or any previous year, but those new tunes
are just stuck in my head... :/

As for FF3, its more the storyline & interactive backgrounds
that bring me back for more, as you get the same music
with better gameplay in Real Bout Fatal Fury.
