I just got back from checking out SvC:Chaos at a local arcade.
First and foremost: I am impressed - not extremely impressed, but impressed. (more on that later)
The first thing that I thought when watching a Hugo vs. Kyo match was, How the HELL is this running on the MVS?
There is also an eerie feeling watching Capcom characters being played on the Neo....it's something you have to see for yourself.
Graphics:
Very nice...well for the Neo anyway. Better than KOF, but not as good as MOTW. It sits pretty somewhere in between. If SNK had redrawn some of their KOF characters like Kyo, Terry, ect. it would have left a much better impression. The capcom characters look fantastic. They really outdid themselves. The only other real thing I didn't like was that the characters seemed very very small in comparison with Hugo. It almost seemed out of place, but after a while you adjust and it looks normal.
Total: 9.5/10
Backgrounds:
This is where I felt like SNK knew that they were running out of space and if they had to sacrifice something to make room they did it here. Some of the backgrounds are kick ass. Others are just..well...ass. For example, the Church/tower bg is sweet. Just wait until you see the lantern reflections on the pillars...very nice. While the abandoned railroad seemed like a complete waste of space. Honestly they would have been better off simply leaving that one out and spiced up some of the others.

I didn't get to play but twice and I didn't have any problems. However, I suck at fighting games. I don't even know what the hell you guys are talking about half the time. SDM? Cancel? --
I just don't get it. But I know a good fighting game when I play one. I may not be as hard core as others, but I can tell the difference between KOF 98 and KOF 2001--if that means anything.
Now, from the hardcore guys that were playing the game, I got the feeling that some things were done well, others were not. One of the main complaints I kept hearing was that charging was very difficult and irritating. Balrog was a useless character to play with because of the difficulty of charging. I can imagine the same would go for Guile and others.
There were complaints that supers wouldn't come out, but the majority of the guys had no trouble.
Total: 8.5/10
Sound:
It's....ok. Nothing outstanding, but it's nice. I usually only pay attention to the music of a game when it's playing between rounds or just at the very start of a match anyway, so it's no biggie for me. The announcer is pretty cool because he literally screams "A NEW CHALLENGER!!!!!!!!" Pretty funny stuff.
Total: 8.5/10
Overall:
Ok, so I only played 4 rounds, but I watched for a good 30 minutes so take this for what it's worth. This game is with out a doubt one of the best fighting games on the neo. Top 3 for sure. With the multitude of characters to choose from you really can't miss. The best thing about the game is that it stays true to the SNK and Capcom universe. Moreso SNK than Capcom but that's why I like it. I am very excited about the game. I really can't wait to preorder this baby for the AES so that I can start learning some combos and head back up to that arcade and start racking up some wins. If you have an AES, MVS, PS2, or XBOX you MUST get this game.
Yes some of the backgrounds aren't the greatest and some of the controls are not perfect. But this game is a very serious fighter. Definetly geared so that even if you are not on a "tournament level" as far as your skills are concerend, you will still have a blast with this game.
