do neo games die often?

I have a couple of games (all seem to be really old ones like Fatal Fury) that over time have developed some flaws and since I keep everything really clean and well stored I can only chalk it up to the ROMs being bad. Since I bought the games used I do not know which were always that way and which developed it over time.

So my question: have you had a game (s) develop (or even die) problems?

If so what titles?

I am interested in AES specifically, but MVS would be cool to hear about also.

All the AES titles I have work perfectly fine.

Never had one die on me or causing problems.

In theory, any NGH or MVS titles with EPROM chips could be falling prey to 'bit rot' where the data stored on the chips has decayed and is causing glitches.

I have never experienced it myself, though.

I've heard of 'bit rot' before.

Then again, look at all those pre-1980 technology game systems and games that still work today.

Supergoose,

The contacts to BOTH the Neo and the games have been VERY carefully cleaned and checked for gunk or dust. Thanx for the adive though. ;-)

Anyone else had a Neo game die or develop issues?

Yes, but they were all due to EPROM bitrot as said above. I had a Puzzle Bobble bootleg develop sound problems as well,

Sometimes "carefully" cleaning contacts isn't enough...

Every problem I've ever had with glitches has been solved by cleaning the contacts with simple rubbing alcohol.

Resoglass/Galfordo,

I cleaned the 3 titles I have that are glitchy with alcohol and a good chamois swab (really top grade audio head cleaners that are about $1 each), let it dry, did it again, let it dry and did it a THIRD time. The contacts are shiny and like new (in looks I mean). I then looked at the contact under bright light to see if there was any gunk or dust left... nothing except shine.

These puppies are as clean as it gets. ;-)

I say this because I am curious if you have any cleaning ideas that go beyond what I did. If so, please let me know.

Also, I might point out that my 22 other titles work just fine.

NRUVA,

Ever have a legit cart go bad?
Personally, no... but I believe LWK had a Garou MOTW original (but with EPROMs) go south on him... Maybe he can comment.
