I assume that this is a bank transfer. Are these safe? Thanks!

T/T translates to bank wire transfer.
I learned this from overseas business transactions, mainly with Japan.

Another term: ROM translates to home cartridge.

Short of Escrow, it is probably the safest way to pay. It gives you a good, solid paper trail. Very very few people wil even consider trying to screw you, since it ould constitute wire fraud, a federal offense. It usually has a fee of a few follars to 10.00 or so, but in the end, it is worth it.

T/T transfers are annoying as hell, no offense Jigen, but I don't know what bank you get those rates at. I had to pay for something with a T/T transfer once (wiring money, western union etc.), it was for a hard to find part for my arcade monitor, the part costed 25 bucks, it costed me 35 fucking dollars just to wire the money from my bank.

And believe me, I checked every bank in my area, they ranged in price from 35-65 dollars just to do one wire transfer overseas (It was to Taiwan). Because people really only use it when their dealing with large ammounts of money. Like a lot of those HK Game sites only take T/T, because they get most of their bussiness from dealers who buy a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff at a time, then 35 wouldn't seem like so much.

I don't even bother anymore if they can't take Paypal or CC.

So my 25 dollar part, ended up costing me 25 + 35 for the bank transfer + 45 dollars EMS shipping from Taiwan (It was a monitor chassis), that's right 105 dollars in the end, but it was the ONLY place to find the part.

I have a nice, small midwestern town bank. The wire transfers I have done have been direct from my checking account, and have cost me under 10.00 every time. Even sending money to Honk Kong. Alot of things in the midwest are cheaper than on either coast. I've also been a member of my bank since it opened 4 years ago, and have only bounced 3 checks. Maybe it's possible I got some sort of preferred customer service?

EDIT-I was also able to do them from my home, over the phone.

EDIT AGAIN- Might my status of federal disability have something to do with it?

Middle Aged Man knows!

(he was a Mike Meyers character from SNL).

Anyway, from my understanding: Escrow is a mediator used for high end items. A buyer and seller agree to use a 3rd party for a transaction (an escrow service) and the item and money arrive at the escrow service who then independently checks that the item is as described and the money is all there; then sending each to its respective recipient. Payment for the service is either a flat fee or a percentage.

A t/t is a TELEGRAPHIC TRANSFER and i swear by them.

All you need is somebodies bank details (name, address of bank, account number, sort code etc) but word of warning these are very expensive to do but you will have the money within 3 working days anywhere in the world (same days if in the same country)

I'm quite lucky my wife works for the Royal bank of Scotland (offshore) and they charge a flat fee of £20 per transfer - but my wife is staff and she gets it for free.

I personally prefer Paypal, but if they don't have that option its the next best thing (not worries of mail being late - international money orders)

PEACE

Telegraphic Transfer can be a good way to transfer funds from one account to another.

But beware of third party commission deals, for instance I sent some payment from a PNG bank acc to one in HK, of about $150 sent $100 arrived the other end. It turned out my bank did not have direct dealings with the HK bank concerned, so the transaction went via a third bank which withheld its commission, charges and fees.

The bank will often neglect to inform you of this, always ask, especially if you deal with a lesser known bank.

I find Western Union a good reliably method of payment.

I haven't even physically even been to my bank in almost 6 months. It's been at least 3 months since I've called them. My check is direct-deposit, and I have my dad get cash for me. Everything else is PayPal, or checks written to my dad. I fully ecpect them to send an officer out to check soon.

EDIT- About Western Union. They are not that great. They are global as far as I know, but do very little to protect you in the case of fraud. It is a SECURE way to send money, but don't expect a hand if something goes wrong.

A person wishes to do a transaction over seas but can't find a good rate for wire transfers. He or She can paypal you the money to do the transaction along with a small service fee.
The goods get shipped from overseas to the person who solicited your services.
Just a thought...

Yeah, until you want to make an overseas order. Most HK or asian stores do not even bother with Money orders. Too many get lost, or stolen. Wire transfer is their method of choice. This ain't eBay kid.

No shit. Not one single Priority mail package I have sent in the last 3 monthshas come close to arriving in the alloted time.

Not to be harsh, but if I pay for priority mail, I want it there in priority time. Not a week later. Not 9 days later. 2-3 days. If I wanted it to take forever, I'd send it airmail.

Amen to that
I was told that USPS is quietly laying-off employees but I am also noticing that the mail is also carelessly combed through...
I'm going to refrain from further comment because @ least I know that you're just upset as I am,menaing I am not alone on how I feel. :/

everyone does this in japan, instead of paypal, and it's real cheap there. Fees are usually 100 to 400 yen (under $3), but for US banks transfers cost ridiculously high prices. This is because the US banking system is so "weak" compared to the Japanese or German ones. I'm not insulting the US here, it's just a fact that banking in the US doesn't offer the same mobility as in Germany or Japan.
