Two and a half years after selling my Neo and games, I won an ebay auction last week for a japanese Neo w/ four games and am glad to return to the world of Neo Geo gaming. I have also recently registered here as all the members here appear to be a wonderful bunch of informed and helpful people, eager to assist their Neo-owning brethren. I am now trying to track a few of the games I used to own as well as some new ones (ah, the hunt for Neo games, how I've missed it). I will post what I'm looking for in the wanted section. I merely wished to say hello to all the members of this great site and have one question I wish to ask to anyone king enough to answer: I.ve located an MVS version of Neo Turf Masters and just heard of conversions. How much does this process cost (as the AES version of this cart I noticed sold for over $1000 recently on ebay, CRAZY!)?

Conversions aren't cheap because they involve taking an already existing Neo Geo game and sacraficing it for the converted game (thus destroying the game on the "sac" cart). This can get expensive if there's a lot of MVS games you want to convert.

If you want to save a lot of money in the long run I recommend finding a MVS-to-AES convertor. !Arcade! makes one (their listed on the Glossary and the Links) and there are a few others running around.

That way if you find another must-have you can get it cheap without having to go through the conversion mess (which, IMO, is a but unethical).

A lot of people have gone that route and are very satisfied.

By the way, Welcome back to "the light"! ;)

Yes I am. I was born in Santa Fe, but I was raised here in Canada. I've lived there for over a year, which is where I met my wife. Oh, and glad to be back to the Neo, thanks.

To Bobak: I really don't wish to purchase the Phantom converter, simply because Neo Turf Masters is the only game whose AES price seems to be in the stratosphere and is the only game in the Neo library I can find that is of that rarity, that is why I wish to convert it, as it would look nice with my other home carts. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I myself feel conversions are immoral, I see all SNK objects as items that must be treasured. Not sacraficed to make a game that was not made by SNK themselves. But games to be played as they were intended and assembled.

Parts are not the issue, the problem is that if people continue with conversions, they limit runs of already given games. You may hear,

"Oh but there are thousands of those"

Same goes for dinosaurs, now where can you find any of them?
People believe preservation of neo games is okay through roms. A rom to me is just a recording. The things that need to truly be preserved are the carts themselves. Killing a cart to make any other, no matter how nice is just a hack job and is disrespectful to SNK's efforts in my opinion.

I have never bought a converted cart, and never will.
Just my stance on the issue.

Definitely a worthy stance as I also feel that Neo carts have a more revered quality about them than any other video game software I've come to know. I simply don't understand why a game of value must jump to ridiculous proportions. Neo Turf Masters is a quality golf game, perhaps bested by the forthcoming Hot Shots 3 (which I anxiously await), but not of a high meg count or a design that is original. I'm a sucker for beautiful sprites and I appreciate them more than beautiful polygons, but I can't justify $1,000 US for a game, although I understand, appreciate, and agree with you point.

Its all due to rarity and demand these days. Games like Metal Slug I have heard arent rare, just in high demand.

You can tell whats truly rare by just occasionally browsing and checking which games popup more then others.
MS pops up alot, not because its rare, simply because it can meet a certain price criterion.
