AES or MVS? What would you prefer?

As I shop more and more for a decent AES system, I'm noticing that the price is along the same lines as a cabinet with a 2-slot MVS. Now, if you had the choice (and the space obviously), what would you prefer?

Can you think of any pros/cons for either? I'm aware that you could probably score Metal Slug MVS for 100 bucks, while AES would be upwards to 1000; so that's a difference - anything else you can think of besides price? Thanks in advance.

Personally, I prefer the AES. Why? It looks nicer and the carts is nicer, too. :D

AES absolutely. Always buy AES. AES is the way to go. Yessir. AES. None of that MVS stuff. Nope, it's too cheap, totaly non-collectable. Collect AES. Try to get it all.

Just leave the MVS stuff to us fools.....

I dig your website. I used to work in an arcade as assistant manager/tech and you have decent instuctions there for building the MVS 2 slot cab. Bravo.

Hmm...my post seems midly sarcastic; please note that it is sarcasm free.

I'd say avoid AES if you're a gamer (initially).

Play your MVS, and if you're a collector, then get AES for titles you really like.

I've seen several posts already dealing with how to handle AES carts (I don't blame people for games worth up to a grand or more) but it takes part of the fun out of playing them, I would imagine (oh no.... I scratched the label, the once minty mint cart is ruined!)

Blah I say, play... then collect :)

I fucking hate decisions.

About the supergun: How do they work? Is the image filtered poorly or are they at least on par with the AES? What's decent one to look into? I remember one going by "Nova", but I think it was shit.

Thanks in advance.

I just went to massystems.com and checked out the supernova/gun. . .do these suck? How is the maintainence?

Sorry for all the questions, but when you're dropping 500+ you want to make a sound decision :)

I dont know about other superguns but mine is on the same level as the AES for screen quality, the resolution is fantastic and its full screen too.

Where did you get your supergun/nova/HGA? Where did you get the MVS slot hook up?

One of the best Pro for me was collectabilty. I love the cases for the AES system. They make such a nice collection.

But then so does an arcade cab.

Little story here... Which really pisses me off.
2 Christmases ago I could have bought a 4 slot arcade cab from our local dealer for $100 and I decided I really didnt have the space in my small apartment.
Well when my wife and I moved I tried to get that cab again. They told me it would cost me $900.
You could see why I am mad about this.

everyone says aes is so much nicer...but comon is there anything nicer than a arcade cabnet in your house!?

the only advantage to aes i think really is the portability you cant bring a cab over to a friends house or on a trip to play (but u can a supergun)

if u like art buy a poster and save a few hundred dollars yeesh

I would go with MVS first because you can get the games you want right away for cheap . I got all four Samuri Showdowns for $100 , and KOF 95 for $25 , Metal Slug for $50 . Think about it , you could play so many Great games for prices waaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than the AES .

Don't get me wrong I like the AES too , but you can always in the future , after you get your MVS, pick up an AES system and get your Favorite games for it . Thats what I did , so I'm enjoying Metal Slug fo $50 and I'm also collecting my AES games .

Go with MVS first , play whatever Neo Geo game you want and then if you still got the Neo bug start collecting AES games .

I'm not too interested in collectability, I just like to be able to play my games and have fun - so supergun/mvs was the way for me :) If you want your collection of MVS carts to look nice, grab some shock boxes off big bear and print some inserts, then you'll be set :D

Very hypothetical.
If I was to be offered all the Aes stuff in the world, players, carts, kits etc (and had to keep it all in a huge wharehouse and not allowed to sell any of it)to trade for my twins and modest collection of carts, I would not consider it. I like playing the games, I couldnt give a shit if the cart is minty or fucked, as long as it works.
Infact worn arcade carts look better I rekon !
I am a collector in a sense because I want to get more carts and dont want to part with the ones I already have.
I can afford to get into AES and rare carts, but dont see the point. You get a better buzz out of playing on a real MVS cab, as it was meant to be played, in the arcade.

I'd like to have both. MVS for having that 'arcade' feel, and AES for sitting down in front of the television on those cold nights and playing 'till dawn breaks. There are good and bad reasons for both, but in the end both will work for me.
