Keep hearing rumors that there are new NeoGeo CD titles on the way. Does anyone know if there is any truth behind these rumors or is it just complete wishful thinking.

just curious

Dude.. buddy... comrade... amigo.

That has got to be complete bullshit. The largest game, I think, that was put on CD was infact KOF99. It was terrible with loading. It made me cry almost. Notice how Neo-Geo has only been puting out MVS and HC games. Look at this chart I have made. **Lets assume KOF99 (673 Megs) is the NGCDs limit**

MS3- 708 Megs
KOF2K- 688
Strikers- 684
BB- 170!!!
MOTW- 688

This shows that most of these new games have exceeded the "limit" Maybe if you wanted to endure horrible, agonizing loading, than there might be a KOF2K CD. And maybe a BB. But I think SNK thinks that the CDs wont be sold. I just think they should keep shelling out those AES and MVS games. And lets hope for some new ones!! (SS5 in production, and KOF2K1 also!!)

I see this a lot on the forum.

Those games are Megabit, not Megabyte.

Mark of the Wolves is a 688Mb cart it's really only about 70MB or about 1/10th of the space allowed on a CD.

I think the load times are definately a problem, but I don't think it's impossible to port any of those games.

Actually when a game says it has that many Megs, I think it's in MegaBits not Megabytes (ROM is measured in bits not bytes). Where 8 bits == 1 byte. Doing some division (and yes I know it's not exact cause it's really 1024 bits per kB, and 1024 kb per MB), the 673 MegaBits for KOF99 translates into about 84 Megabytes, which makes sense, since the KOF99 ROM I play on my computer (I have the cart on MVS, don't flame me) is about 87MB. It can fit the game on the CD, it just takes a while to get it loaded off the CD. Theoretically a NeoCD game could hold a game with a cart Meg count of 5,200 (if the Neo MVS/AES hardware is still being used where we have 2D games (w/o FMV) that big on a cart, I'm going to invent my own chipset).
Personally I don't think that SNK will release any new CD games, since they really only seem to care about the MVS of late.
Actually, it may be possible to take the ROM of a game and using the technical info on the CD layout of a NeoCD game, that you could burn your own new NeoCD games (don't hold me to that though, it's purely theoretical )

if you did burn your own neo roms, you'd have to program the loading and stuff. and since theres limited ram in neo cd, youd have to drop the music. cuz the neo cd music is cd audio.

Hendrix: yep. One of the big problems with the NeoGeo CD is it's underpowered RAM wise so that'd be the biggest hurdle

In fact, it is The King of Fighters '98, at 683 megs. The Last Blade 2 was only 554M yet has the worst load times says popular vote.

I didn't know that it was CD audio, but it makes sense. I thought that the CD was just the AES hardware with a CD drive to read the needed ROM in to memory, and just go from there.
Yeah, you would have to program the loading, at least to point to where the necessary rom files are on the disc (or is that in making the TOC on the cd in the Neo Format?).

So I spose I stick to the hope that the rumors might be true amd we might see Metal Slug 3 on CD Format. I think alot of the rumors have sprung from the Asian branch reopening.

seeing as there haven't been any recent rumors of MSX even coming to NGCD, i highly doubt that MS3 would appear, and i highly doubt that any new CD games will be popping up.
