Dont know about the rest of you guys, but Samurai Showdown is what kept me coming back to the Neo. Somehow the combofests (and weird char designs) of KOF just didn't do it for me (neither did LB or LB2).

But browsing around these boards here, SS seems just about forgotten, are there any Samurai fans left? Its been a while since SS4, but it was one of my most memorable experiences.

With that said, shout it out if you are an SS-aholic.

SNK would have made a bundle for practically nothing if they released a compilation of a couple of their fighters. I would have shelled a hundred bucks for an SS1-4 disc for the DC (or even a saturn version). No retouching, just an exact port of the game without enhancements would have been enough.

I am planning on getting a cab one of these days and hosting a weekly tournament, I cream everyone with my Bust Galford (screw Poppy, but I love that dog).

Right now I've got
SS1 us+jp
SS2
SS3
and my Hyper with SS64+SSWR has already been ordered <img src="graemlins/drool2.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool 2]" />

I still need SS4, both pocket SS games and WR2 for the PSX...I think that'll do :)

It's funny...I seem to be the only person who prefers SS1 over SS2. :D

Samurai Shodown is what meade me an Snk fan and its probaly Samurai Shodown that brought more then half the board members here to love SNK. Samurai Shodown should not be forgotten.

hell yeah, I love samurai showdown, it was probably the first neo MVS game I played in my local arcade.

I have:

Samurai Shodown 1 (US) AES
Shin Samurai Spirits (JPN) AES
Samurai Showdown II (NGPC)

I did have Samurai Showdown 1 on 3DO too, it was a very nice port.

I'm a Samurai Shodown fan! I've got:

Samurai Shodown MVS kit
Samurai Shodown II MVS kit
Samurai Shodown I-IV (MVS)
Samurai Shodown II & III (NGCD)
Samurai Spirits Illustration Collection
Samurai Spirits II anime (fansub VHS)
Samurai Spirits: Aoi Nanase Collection (books)

As well as a bunch of Samurai Spirits manga and doujinshi, as well as a small fan-fic I wrote.
I still remember the first time I played Samurai Shodown (at Shakey's back in December 1993), and the good times just keep on rollin'. I'm hoping one day to get my hands on Samurai Shodown 1 and 4 for the Neo-Geo CD (as well as a cute Nakoruru UFO doll), but until then, I'll just keep on playing Samurai Shodown II (my favorite of the bunch).

One word of advice: don't EVER see the Samurai Shodown anime (not the recently-made one, but the one released here in the states by ADV Films; it is one of the worst anime films EVER MADE.

I'm too sick of compilations. What I want to see is SS5. Or even better Samurai Shodown vs Last Blade & Ninja Masters, so I can beat the living snot out of those Jabronis.

I use to have that version. It was pretty good; in fact one of the best conversions of the game for its time.

hey wasabi,

web questions. you should fill in the ss64 story lines and put in a lot of sceens of both the 64 games. i've only ever seen five screens of them and about 3/4 of the characters. just for starters, or at least a link to a good ss64 page

The thing that kills me about the SamSho series is that even IF someone makes a sequel (SS5) it's NOT even going to live up to what SamSho 3 should have been.

Not that I hate SamSho 3, but SNK must have been shooting up speedballs with John Belushi circa 1981 to have given the greenlight to the massive departure from SamSho 2 that was SamSho 3. It's a cool game in it's own right, but does anyone remember what they thought of it when it came out? Right after SamSho 2? What a letdown.

If they do make a SamSho 5, it'll probably play and look more like Last Blade 2 than anything else.

And there's no way they'd do anything as cool as include ADK's Ninja Masters characters. (Not that it'd be too hard to license or anything...) Karasu's coolness factor is up there with Genjuro and Ukyo.

Oh, I hate the fact that Capcom's artists got their cartoon drawing paws on Haohmaru and Nakoruru in CvsSNK2...

Samurai Showdown I and II were games of unmatched coolness, III and IV both had their merits on different levels, but the series was no longer the Capcom-killing monster it had been, and people stopped crowding around the games in the arcades.

SamSho 5?

I aint holding my breath.

You are correct, i think i played shodown 1 and 2 for about 4 or 5 years without ever getting bored and even today i still have fun with them both especially the sequal, i never really liked 3 and 4 but i think 2 was one off the best fighing games ever made and now days with new fighters i get ,i only play for a week or two before getting bored
I absolutely love shodown 2
it was fatal fury 2 which realy got me into the neo geo though, and was pissed when i got my aes version of shodown to realise they blood had changed to white with fatalities missing, lucky there was a cheat on the sequal as i feel the fatalaties gave it that added extra and last year when i went mvs i got shodown again and played it for the first time since it was in ther arcades without cencorchip :)
