Is this normal? its in my mvs fighting games that zoom out. IS this just for games that zoom out or does Metal Slug's suffer from this too? and what about shock troopers? Its the blue converter.

*sigh* This is normal. It seems like it happens to 50% of the people who own one. It's not a perfect device. You might not be able to play certain games. It's all up in the air with the Phantom-1.

On Metal Slug, don't be surprised to see that happen on the high score list with the rotating background.

It probably behaves like that with a certain revision of the Neo Geo's PCB. That's something to look into...NOTE MADE.

I had that same problem. It didn't want to play SS3 or Windjammers correctly, so I sold off the piece of shit. It's FAR too expensive for being so particular. I used mine on two seperate systems (one #53XXX, one #332,976!), and it didn't want to work properly on either. Worst investment I ever made. Piece of crap. very_ang

The only problem I ever had with my P1 was that when is zoomed out on SS3 and 4 the mesh on Hanzo and Galford's would get this rainbow pattern. Same thing happened to the smoke on Hanzo's SS3 stage and the in game text boxes in Sengoku 3. Other than that it was fine. It always worked on the first time and ran every game I ever put in it.
The Phantom is kind of a mixed bag. Half of us use it with out a problem and the other half have nothing but trouble with it.

sell it
buy a supergun and a mvs board
both combined will cost you about the same as a phantom 1 alone
and guess what
itll work with every mvs game you buy (except the one perhaps)

I havent had any problems with my Phantom-1 as ive had mine for almost 2 months now. Currently have 8 MVS games and they all work perfectly with it. I enjoy the Phantom-1 as for the money saver that it is on the expensive games and its easy to use. :)

So is it the converter or my system? if i get another could the problems not be apparent or is it basically that i'll have the problem with every phantom? Also how much is an mvs board and a super gun and is that all I need to play the games?

It's the converter's fault. Period. Getting a new one will do nothing.

The P-1 is also known to damage / weaken the cartridge slot in your Neo-Geo system. For example: ever since I started using the P-1, my home carts won't work unless I 'wiggle' them. :( (sighs)

There is also the 'virgin' slot issue where it’s almost impossible to remove an MVS cart from the P-1 after using it. This usually leads to the all-too-common cart connector flaw where a piece of plastic will break off from the P-1's cart connector for no apparent reason.

Had the same problem with the Rainbow effect. It was the newest version too.

Also had problems with Ultimate 11, black spots in some of the stages, but not all of them.

Unfortunately, the P1 is not a scientific instrument.

Doesnt sound worth the money for the fuck ups when you could buy an MVS board + Supergun set up for cheaper.

Bonuskun says the problem is that you need to have your cart slots on your aes replaced if the signal fucks up. I dont know how much that would cost or if it actually works, but i assume its worth a shot seeing as Ive either got this, or pay 500+ dollars on a flipping ugly clunky and easily breakable mvs board and super gun.

I got a Phantom-1 (blue) a few months back and haven't had any problems with it, the Neo, or the MVS carts. I have the MVS versions of MS, MS2, MSX, FFRB2, and ROTD. Everything works perfectly.

I believe that "rainbow" effect on mesh patterns is just how the system displays it. I've noticed this not only on my MVS carts, but my AES carts as well. In particular my NGH Samurai Showdown & NGH Sengoku 3.

Yeah, its trying to do a translucent light. Sega Genesis had this problem too. Remember when it use to say sega and the white would always look like rainbows were going through it? Its the trick they use to make it look translucent on 16 bit. SNES didnt suffer from this. ps1 and saturn looked better. And i remember the N64 wowed me at the fact that it could do "PURE" white. If you didnt notice it then, you wont notice it now, but it was amazing to me. its the thing that actually sold me onto the system. I thought it was capable of everything. shame

Don't bother! Really! You'll get it done and then maybe still have problems. It's not an official product. You say you don't want to worry about a clunky MVS board, or whatever, but how much have you put into the Phantom-1 already and how much more time and effort will it take? You don't even realize that down the line you might find a game that doesn't even boot. Try Metal Slug X. A ton of people can never play MSX with the Phantom. A good supergun plus a one slot board shouldn't actually cost you that much more than the Phantom. Definitely shouldn't cost $500. if you are worried about money, you'd save a ton just by selling off your entire homecart collection for an MVS setup and you'd never have to worry about any of this. It's possible to have someone build you a consolized MVS system that's only a little bigger than the home system, too!

Mine has proven to work perfectly !! It's a nice piece of engineering.

I have 23 MVS games now(since buying the Phantom-1), and the only problem I had was with with MS4, turned out to be mis-alignment issue. It is my opinion that the MS4 cart shell is slightly "out of spec" from the old SNK shell.

PS for all interested. If you are not using svideo YOU ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO SEEING WHAT THE NEO GEO IS CAPABLE OF. I used my Neo for 10 years, and recently bought a modded machine from Kennyboy. It's like I am experiencing a whole new world. GOOD-BYE Rainbows and Shitty Graphics - Hello Crystal Clear Video and MONSTER Graphics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PSS - Metal Slug X Works GREAT ! so does
