Does the memory card hold codes I input for secret characters or do I have to enter the code every single time? I would definitely invest in a mem card if it did this, or I probably should just do it anyways. Thanks for the input.

No, you have to enter the codes every time. The only thing that the memory card saves is the position where you got game over or you beat the game and it saves at the last boss. Memory card aren't that important, because I prefer playing through the game.
