Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I thought probably the most people would see it here. I know that tons of you here have firghteningly cool home arcade set-up with lines of Jamma machines et. If you have a couiple of cabs in your front room or a DDR machine in your basement then I need to chat with you asap.

Could you eiher PM me or reply in this thread. I'm sorry but superguns need not apply- I'm looking for people with something out of the ordinary and visually impressive.

If you know of anyone else I could chat to (other than Archer Mclean ) then please point e in the right direction.

Other than that- does anyone have any great arcade machine ownage related anecdotes? Did you rescue a Samurai Shodown 3 cab from a skip (true story from someone here i seem to remember?) or maybe find an empty abandoned warehouse full of Tempest machines? Post here or PM me,

Cheers

Well...I have TWO Capcom Mini Cutes. I got one on an auction and the other one...let me tell you this:

I went to my favorite arcade in Akihabara, the Try Amusement Tower. On one floor, they had a pink Mini Cute in bubble wrap, not being used at all. I really thought I could use that cab, so I told my friend that I would ask if I could buy it outright. I ask one of the staff if I could buy the cab since it wasn't being used. Since he didn't exactly have an answer he calls the owner of the arcade and then tells me to wait. After 40 minutes, the owner arrives. I tell him of my interest in buying the cab, and gives me the Ok. When I ask him how much the cab is, he tells me 10,000 yen (about $85). I hand him 10,000 yen on the spot and leave my address. He had it delivered to my apartment in the next week and even rotated the monitor for me. (I use it for my vert games)

Pretty cool, eh?

Heh, I got most of my arcade machines from a head shop! buttrock

Also, I got the tetris for free when I got my pac-man, because he thought it was broken, and when I looked at it, it was only a wire that had come loose off the 'on' button. There's more to that story, but that's the basics.

Oh, and when I went shopping for a coffee table, once, I came home with a cabaret KLAX machine instead...

I have some other weird stories. I seem to just sort of fall into my machines.

Antecdotes on how I got it? Or other stuff? I'll tell how I got it and one thing that happened to me once.

I knew the Jewish Community Center had a MVS cabinet (coverted, 19") just sitting there in the Teen Lounge. It needed its controls replaced, some cleaning, and the monitor needed a LOT of tweaking to get working again (I'm still surprised it looks as nice as it does without needing a cap kit). We (me and the manager of the Teen Lounge and its contents) agreed on $250 for it but it turned out the manager knew my Grandpa well and he let me have it for $200 (my original offer). It was a great day when it was delivered, my brother and I tried desperately to play it (we'd lift up the CP and press the micros with our fingers for 1P's joystick, cause it actually didn't have a stick), and finally a neighbor and friend of mine helped with it a bit and after a lot of work it works 100%.

Another amusing antecdote (if you find 15-year-olds getting hurt funny...) is that I was adjusting the brightness on my Wells-Gardner 19K4615 monitor, and the knob you turn is in a precarious spot, your finger and thumb have to straddle this metal bar that holds some PCBs upright in order to turn it. Well I went to adjust it and I think a capacitor discharged right into one of my fingers. For about two seconds it burned like crazy, then went numb. I was yelling nonsense and slamming my finger to the wall to get the feeling back while my little brother (age 13) just looked on.

Sometimes I envy people with normal TVs on their console setups, pure digital adjustment...

But you have pure RGB Bliss! What could be cooler than that? heh, maybe I'm just old-school.
