Is this KOF 98 MVS cart a boot?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3235454040&category=13716 I looked in the cart pics section of this site, and the legit MVS cart is blue.

Most MVS carts don't have a "set" color that they are supposed to come in. If you check the sellers other auctions, most his stuff looks legit. Also, All the carts he is selling that have a transparent casing appear to have no eproms on the program board.

It could be, because I looked at his feedback, there all positives, but none of them were Neo Geo related, so, it could be a boot. That's why I don't want to go into buying MVS carts, because what if they are bootlegs, then I wasted my money. So, I guess I'll stay with the AES cart, even tho, they are expensive, but, at least, I know they will work.

You are being a little paranoid about boots, they aren't as common as people make them out to be. Most boots are sold from sellers who are notorious for selling them. Like I said, this seller is selling many legit carts, so I would say the boot factor is greatly lowered. I mean, if you would rather pay $150 for an aes when you could take a chance with this $10 cart, go for it.

Thats 100% original.
In 98 blue and white were more common.
This can be found in LB2 as well.
Color means nothing in mvs carts.
!Arcade! once wrote a article on MVS carts, and it stated that a game like KOF 99 has been seen in every possible color.
I have a blue LB2 english mvs cart, and my 98 looks exactly like the one pictures. Only cleaner.

Side info:
VIC-A Carts are my passion for MVS, they come in unique colors most of the time. As with some versions you cannot select a predone Korean language. (Like SS3 for hc, which you can switch to Korean)

So that makes the VIC-A's one of a kind, and they all have crappy changes.

I ain't gonna bid on it, because I don't have any way on playing MVS cart yet, I was jus' wondering if it was a boot, or not. Maybe I'm bit paranoid because since the whole AaronLewis incident, I've been more cautious on what I'm buying on Ebay and on the forums.

Even if a boot (to be clear I only support legit carts), you can still play it while going after the seller via Ebay and Paypal (use PP with a credit card for ALL transactions and you're much safer).. this is assumming it's a boot.

ALso, get to him put in writing that it's legit... that's helpful, too

Of course, I'm an AEs guy and think the extra cash is worth it from the collecting P.O.V.

With the exception of Bang Bead, of course.

There's no way to know by cart color. Some people even switch out cases for other colors, although it's not common.

It's actually usually really easy to tell if something is a boot. Look in the little slits in the side of the cart and look for shoddy soldering. Most bootlegers don't do factory soldering jobs so you can almost postively tell right away if it's not a factory job. Also, just look in there for any suspicious chips with windows (eproms). That doesn't always mean it's a boot or not, but if they're all eproms then it's definitely a boot.

Of course, you can't look in the slots at all in the pic, so then asking in a forum like this is a good choice.

My vote...
not a boot, considering the other carts he's selling are not boots.

Don't be so paranoid though. Like it's been said, boots aren't that common. There are some games where boots of them are everywhere (Puzzle Bobble, Super DodgeBall, Garou, and the newer games), but for the most part, you won't be running into boots that often.

I probably stick with the AES carts, because the MVS carts are too unreliable and there's no way you can if it's a boot jus' by looking at it. Even tho, some AES carts, costs an arm and leg to buy them like Waku Waku 7.

You never know. I've seen a MS3 that had that same casing.
BB may have been such a limited run that it ended up clear cased.

I havent seen all released bang beads side by side though. Cannot confirm or deny.

As we told you, there's no way in hell you can spot bootlegs just by the color of the case, they used all of them in almost every game. My MVS shelf looks likt the rainbow, I have all different colors.

But, are most MVS games bootlegs? Or are they rare?
Most MVS games are NOT bootlegs, as it has been said several times in this thread already.

MVS games, for the most part, are cheap and easy to find. Very few are rare, and those rare ones don't go for near the amount rare home carts do.

So, I should buy a Phantom-1 then. So, what's a good place to buy the Phantom-1 at? I tried to e-mail Neogeousa.com but they never responded back to my e-mail. So, what else is a good place to find one brand new?

Get it from videogamedepot.com thats where I got mine. Neogeousa also ignored my emails :( but about the boot problem, just get the games you really want on AES then go MVS for everything else which is what i'm doing and it's working fine. So far I haven't had any trouble with boots.

I'm getting a new one from Kennyboy. If you want a new one I'd get it from him. He seems like very cool ppl.

If you'd like a used one and save a few bucks I think there are 2 for sale in the selling section. Both look like very good deals. Xenvu and rhiokki are the sellers :)

I like it too, i use to push pause on those cut scenes then film with a video camera and zoom in to make the pic as large as possible. that is one bonus that streetfighter 2 never had :)

as for the kof 98 cart i had a white one like that and now more recently got a blue one.
