Just to make sure,

Is it really that awsome? Is it so fucking great that you can't not play, is it so fucking great that you will pay that $3-5 hundred dollars? Dont get me wrong... I love the Metal Slug series. I considered myself to be the hugest fan of this game untill I saw others on this message board that shared my lust. They are my favorite games ever. No ports are the same... it must be the Neo-Geo. It simply must.

I have had huge dissapointments with seriess like this before. For instance, I was obsessed with Twisted Metal. TM4 looked insane. I got it and almost cried when I saw how sorry it was. I just hope that MS3 doesnt fuck me over... if someone could put a video together for me... than I might be able to see it in action. Thanks.

No. Metal Slug 3 is very overrated. I played through it once and would've fallen asleep on the last level, it just never stops... but having to fish another token out of my pocket after suffering another cheap-ass death kept me awake.

overrated!!!?

Don't listen to him zeroMJ metal slug 3 is the best metal slug so far. Although to get the most enjoyment out of it you will need to play the first 2 slugs all the way through....All in all metal slug 3 is just awsome it has everything from the other metal slugs and more...IMO the shock troopers series is ok but metal slug is much better. If you want shock troopers style gameplay then play ESP Ra.De or Gunwange again they are better....

actualy ZERO, BBH is partly right. I finaly got A chance to play this game and I while I only got to level 3 so far and cant fully judge I must say I was A LITTLE let down. now keep in mind that I am one of the BIGGEST slug fans out there. its just that the enimies in slug 3 are quite borring. the sudden shift from "mechanic" enemies(sans the soldiers) and bosses to more "organic" ones (such as crabs, aliens, etc) is A little over done. some times it is realy good but other times it is downright BORING.
while stages like the cemetary(stage 2) are cool they move TO GODDAMN SLOW because of the fact that turning into A zonbie constantly takes forever. plus the boss at the end of stage 2 was so boring and odd (not odd in A good way) that I wanted to stop playing there. while I cant fully pass judgment on this game yet, I will do so when I go to the city again and play it in its entirety and post A review up along with reviews of all the other slug titles. from what I have so far though I can sy this: it is NOT as good as slug 1 and 2.

I will say this though the game is much harder than the other two slugs...ORPHEUS you need to get a lot further to see some of the other really cool stuff. People who have completed metal slug 3 will know what I mean....

The multiple pathways alone are worth the price of admission....it adds all sorts of replay value.

I just shelled out 280 for the MVS version and I have no regrets.

I bought it that day ti came out on homecart, and still play it to this day! One of the best playing, and looking platformers I have every laid eyes upon! Multiple paths, great detain and animation, and some of the best control to ever grace a system. Worth evey penny!

For some reason IMO metal slug 3 is much better when you own the cart than to play it on the arcades...I just prefer it on my telly and yes I have played on the arcades...

Don't listen to me? Why, is it wrong to have an honest opinion about the game? Everyone here seems to think Metal Slug 3 is the greatest thing since sliced bread, when the game is still relatively unchanged from the first one. Multiple paths, that's cool. Riding elephants and ostriches... gimmicky, but that's something new. But the game is still the same, they haven't even differentiated the characters in terms of gameplay yet. And they add some of the most annoying enemies and bosses to sap all the fun out of it.

Although to get the most enjoyment out of it you will need to play the first 2 slugs all the way through....All in all metal slug 3 is just awsome it has everything from the other metal slugs and more...

I still think the first Metal Slug was put together the best... but hey, don't listen to ME!

IMO the shock troopers series is ok but metal slug is much better.

That's weird, NOBODY was talking about Shock Troopers... you must be mentioning it just to try to piss me off! But hey, we're all entitled to our opinions, if you like Metal Slug better, that's fine. However...

If you want shock troopers style gameplay then play ESP Ra.De or Gunwange again they are better....

WTF? You can't compare Shock Troopers to ESP Rade or Guwange. (DoDonPachi is better than either of those shooters anyway) By that logic, you might as well be comparing Metal Slug to Pulstar! There's a big difference between shooters that force scrolling all the time and ones that don't. Yeeeesh.

Metal Slug 3 is a masterpiece. Don't let these turkeys misguide you, it is an incredible game. I guess they're just jaded gamers who don't care about a quality game anymore . . .

Apparently I'm now a turkey that nobody should listen to.

It's one thing to use the same game engine over and over in fighting games, but I find that extremely lazy when it comes to platformers. There's been no major innovations to the game, just new enemies, new weapons, new levels. I know, someone's going to say "If it ain't broke...", well save it for someone else. It would be nice to fire diagonally with a weapon other than the Heavy machinegun. It'd be nice to be able to jump down from ledges by pushing down + B. It'd be nice to actually have some sort of life bar outside of the vehicles. It'd be nice if the characters were at least differentiated in some way, give them weapons, give them different walking speeds, I don't care, give them SOMETHING.

So what do we get in this "masterpiece" called Metal Slug 3? Fantastic moments like turning into a zombie in Mission 2, as mentioned by ORPHEUS. Sure that's sorta neat, but it slows the game down to a crawl! It's even worse than when you get turned into a mummy! Then I take one of those sides routes and have to endure several minutes of shooting ice blocks and refrigerators while a never-ending stream of yetis come out shooting freeze blasts with weird homing patterns, which pretty much guarantees death when you're frozen with one nearby. Then you've got that lovely boss, a big orb that throws pillars at you. But hey, that's not quite as cool as the Stage 4 boss, this big generic flying... thing which can only be damaged on some small section in the very middle. Meanwhile, it's throwing all sorts of shit your way, so you don't get much time to actually land hits on it (might have a chance if you could fire diagonally, but nooo). Oh yeah, what a masterpiece.

Metal Slug 3 may be a "good" game, but it surely doesn't deserve to be placed on the pedestal and being called "BEST NEO-GEO GAME EVER!!!!!" and whatnot. Even NAM-1975 is more fun than MS3, and that was the first Neo-Geo game.

Sorry if this pisses anyone off, I'm just some turkey who looks past graphics for a little thing called balanced, fun GAMEPLAY.

Best Metal Slug Game. Period. Anyone tells you otherwise, smile and walk away slowly. There must be something wrong with them. Sudden movements might set them off.

Good luck MJ, here in CT it sucks for ordering stuff- I ordered a Twinkle Star Sprites MVS from this reliable place but everything takes forever unless u do the overnight shipping which can be a pain to pay for. BBH dondonpachi is good but ill in comparasion to Radiant Silvergun

Funny you should mention this when I'm calling Metal Slug 3 overrated... I haven't played Radiant Silvergun myself but I found this article extremely enlightening.

http://www.classicgaming.com/features/articles/shmupsweek/radiant/

Anyway, for the rest of you who keep swearing up and down that Metal Slug 3 is the best, I'll say this: Put up or shut up. All anyone mentions is how Metal Slug 3 is awesome, but nobody is very specific on how it compares to other games in the series (except for an occasional mentioning of how the enemies include human and organic things).

What I want to know is, WHY is it so much better than the previous games. Really, I'd love to know some specific reasons on why this game is just sooooooooo much better than Metal Slug 1, 2 or X. I've listed some reasons why I think the game was overrated, and can expound upon that even further. But I think it's silly that people are telling me to shut up when they're not defending their "masterpiece" very well at all.

So...

When I first saw that I thought It wasn't sarcasm..ok call me dumb..but after reading that review I noticed something : Treasure combined the elements of all those legendary shooters to make one gem of a shooter. Alas theres something I really don't get BB Hood, why is your sn my favorite Vampire Savior character and what replay value does Don Don Pachi have more than any of the R-Type games?? I think this a sign that maybe we are both wrong...even though that may be hard for you *and me* to believe. There will be a new shooter that is the best one yet.....but who knows when it will be released. The only one that could possibly make number one ever, bringing SNK back into the US market, bringing faith back to SNK, and gracing the whole nation- would be ZED BLADE 2!! I'll leave this thought for everyone to pray....
