I have the DC version and I like it. I don't play it TOO often but when I do it's enjoyable.... There is quite a few paths to go through and and little trcks to each one. I coud see myself playing it much more if I had it in a cabinet.

Hmmm...CS game is kinda strange. Like a cross between breakout and squash. The best thing about the DC version (and the only thing that keeps you playing for more than 5 mins) is the internet high score ranking. You get more points by doing trick shots and finishing a round with one of these (finsih all rounds with trickshots for a huuuuge 'perfect' bonus). It looks sweeeet, although IMHO the animation could have been better. Very simple yet well designed, like Rez (only less graphic design).

Only played the DC version though, cab may be different. I thought Blaine would be the first to reply to this! Beaten my highscore yet? :p

It's so cheap because the DC version is exactly the same and only costs 29 dollars.

If the dreamcast version is as good as the Naomi's this would be a first as Spawn, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Capcom Vs. SNK, Dead or Alive 2, Power Stone 1&2,Giga Wing 2 and others blow away the DC versions. Just Like KOF on the DC the real one is always better.

First off Cosmic Smash isn't anything ground breaking, the DC could do it in it's sleep.

I know you own a Naomi, but your still wrong about those other games, maybe spawn, cause I have not played that, but I put A LOT of arcade time in on Power Stone 1 and 2, and the DC versions are the exact same game, I got the import Power Stone 1 the week it was released in Japan, and had played that a full month and a half before the game even came out in the USA, so believe me I could tell instantly if the arcade version looked better.

Considering I play all my systems on an arcade cabinet anyways, it's easy for me to tell, maybe if you compared a TV set running power stone to an RGB monitor running it, i'm sure it would look better.

As for the 2-D games you listed, that's just silly, aside from the split second load times, their the EXACT same games as the Naomi, I don't know if you know this, but the Naomi IS a dreamcast, Sega STV games on saturn are the SAME as the arcade versions, minus the load times. The Dreamcast/Naomi is the same setup, STV and Naomi have more ram, because the games aren't run off CD's, so it has much more to load.

Dreamcast doesn't need as much ram, because it can store all of the game on one CD, and load things when it needs.

Naomi is cool, I used to own an STV too, but there is no difference between that and a Saturn, think what you want, but the DC is the same with little loading.

The Capcom vs. SNK 2 machine here actually plays slower than it does on DC, but that could just be they have the speed clocked lower in the bios.

Power Stone and Power Stone 2 I agree are very close and I have ran them side by side in a pair of Dynamo Hs-5's. There are more jaggies on the DC versions though. As far as the rest I must disagree! Any of the 2d fighters are better for this reason. Lets say for instance Marvel VS Capcom 2. You get Tag lag on the DC version and when you load up large combo's and draw from all three characters the animation slows down without a doubt. You lose frames of animation for sure. The Characters are also a tad bit smaller and the game runs slower.

As for Capcom VS SNK once again the animation just isnt there. And Spawn well thats just a blow out!! Spawn Arcade has different abilities, the graohics are better and the poly's are way more rounded. The DC does a great job but as far as I am concerned with the Naomi you get what you pay for and that is true Arcade excellence!!! Anything else is a port, nothing more, nothing less. Caris I wish you lived closer so I could show you what I mean. :)

The NAOMI (New Arcade Operation Machine Idea) also Japanese for beauty above all else.

Main Ram : 32 megs
CPU : SH-4 64-bit RISC CPU (200 MHz 360 MIPS / 1.4 GFLOPS)
Graphic Engine : PowerVR (PVR2DC)
Sound Engine : ARM7 Yamaha AICA 45 MHZ (with internal 32-bit RISC CPU, 64 channel ADPCM)
Main Memory : 32 MByte
Graphic Memory : 16 MByte
Sound Memory : 8 MByte
Media : ROM Board (maximum size of 168 MBytes) / GD-Rom
Simultaneous Number of Colors : Approx. 16,770,000 (24bits)
Polygons : 2.5 Million polys/sec
Rendering Speed : 500 M pixel/sec
Additional Features : Bump Mapping, Fog, Alpha-Bending (transparency), Mip Mapping (polygon-texture auto switch), Tri-Linear Filtering, Anti-Aliasing, Environment Mapping, and Specular Effect.
Known games on Naomi hardware : 64+

Notice that Naomi has twice the amount of main memory and graphics memory that Dreamcast has, so ports from Naomi to Dreamcast may involve more conversion time. Also note that the Naomi board has four times the sound memory of the Dreamcast, and the reason for this is because the Naomi board is'nt meant to spool redbook audio from the GD-ROM drive.

The Naomi architecture is very flexible in that a cabinet can have anywhere from 1 to 16 boards. A multi board system would operate in parallel increasing the power of the system tremendously! Theoritically a 16 board Naomi system could do (16 x 3.5 mpps) = 56 million polygons per second maximum! Realistically it would most likely be around 20 to 30 mpps. Then of course there is also the issue of the CPU being capable of driving all of this hardware.
