Alright, ok, because they are fun, however what do you exactly find in them that is so fun? I enjoy them very much! Except, I can't play them for over 30 minutes and they get a little boring, but in those 30 minutes its nothing but a pure joy that can only be temporary. :( So, why do you like them? :)

Well, the enjoyment of doing a combo, beating other players, no hard thinking required (like in RPGs), and thats about it.

For a nice, quick thrill, without much frill, fighting games are the way to go. You don't have to put in a lot of time and effort (like in RPGs or long-running platformers), you can go at it with your friends, heck, some of them even have hidden extras that make the game worth playing over and over again. It's a nice, simple, and fun way to have a good time.

Some of my best arcade memories come from fighting games. Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombat II, Marvel vs Capcom, King of Fighters 2000, the list goes on and on...

Fighting games are unlike any other type of games, they require a different kind of skill. They are purely instinct driven, along with hand-eye coordination, they challenge your brain in a whole different way compared to your typical button-masher. Theres something fluid about them too, something about two human forms trying to score points on the other, ahhhh a bloody ballet. Plus, fighting games draw out aggression as you play them, & it feels good.

Much gameplay on a small room. There are only a few sprites and backgrounds, but very detailed. Beat 'em ups are like action games with boss fights only. But your opponent isn't a three screens big foe shooting his guts out at you, he has about the same opportunities as you do. To keep that interesting, an extraordinary varied and well balanced gameplay is necessary.

Combos are what keeps me playing a fighting game. Once you learn how a game is played there is a flow that can be achieved. After you learn that many hours will be lost. Myself and a good friend of mine just had a nice 2 hour session of KOF 97.

I guess the character designs/theme of a fighting really makes it more enjoyable (for instance SSIV).

Its the factor of "whos faster" and who can pull off the moves better with more accuracy...

I love playing a fighter against a second player, and even though I don't get to have that pleasure very often, I do enjoy it dramatically when I get to.

I don't know very many people who like fighters that are close to me, but the ones that do like them are pretty horrid at them.

I love to get my ass kicked in a fighter.

I know that probably sounds pretty stupid, but for me, its a great way of letting go of A LOT of aggression. And tension too. You know that feeling you get when you get you've just gotten your ass handed to you in a round of KoF? I love it, it makes me so angry...and then I just take it out on the buttons and kill the person who thinks they've won me over.

Neo-Geo offers the hardest fighting action of any other system on the planet. There will always be better graphics, but nothing will ever match the character and the capabilities of the NEO-GEO.

I've had that feeling ever since Street Fighter and Samurai Shodown 1.

Its immortal.

Bryan ;)

Ok, bry gave me this topic, i just gotta respond to this...

The reason I like/play fighting games is because they are simply the most versatile games ever. Especially games like KOF. in KOF, people can play so many different ways, you have your throws, standard attacks, special attacks, supers, and you have all kinds of evasive and defensive manuevers, like rolls, throw escapes, etc.

a lot of fighting games just have infinite depth. I doubt that very many people, less than 25% of the people who buy fighting games actually try out the system, actually read about it and learn to use it, or use combos. And strategies are infinite. The way you play makes it more interesting; ultimately, fighters are a complex mind game.

and competition! another huge reason to play fighting games. nothing feels better to win a really close fight, or to totally own someone at the arcade. i can see why people get "bored" of fighitng games cause "you beat it, and that's it." it's all about Vs. mode, people. and hiking up the difficulty.

Not to mention characters are great, and there are always a good number to master. attacks and combos look damn cool, too.

And most of the time, fighting games are difficult. I don't know about the rest of you, but usually, that's a plus in my book.

but to summarize:

-Fun
-Depth
-Competition
-Difficulty

read some FAQs on the fighting games you have, i'm willing to bet anything you haven't explored them to their fullest.

Replayability baby. I like 2d fighters the best. Though Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 3, 4, Tag, Soul Caliber, and Dead or Alive 2 kick much bootay. There has and always will be a special place in my heart for 2d fighters.

Fighters just don't get boring. Ecspecially 2 players. I remember when I was younger playing Street fighter turbo for 10 hours, then going to the arcade and still getting my ass handed to me. A good fighter has an unlimited amount of replay value to it. (well more hours than any RPG or any other game for that matter)

The fact that Street Fighter 2 turbo, samsho 2 and kof95 are still as good as they were back in the day is what makes me love fighters. They just don't get old.
