I've been poking around here for a few days and thought I'd say hello. So hi Neo freaks :D

I've been around the gaming scene a long time. My first encounter was with an alien machine in a local pub. I can still remember walking in and spotting the Space Invaders set up in the corner, tucked away from the pool tables. As my friends continued to rack 'em up I became addicted to the vids. I've been in love with them ever since.

I've owned most every console system to come along since the Atari 2600. But never a Neo-Geo. I've wanted one since I saw it at a local Babbages selling for $700 or so. I might have afforded the console, but those carts prices were pretty scary. If I bought a new game what would I eat for the week drool

But now the time has just about come that I bite the bullet and grab an AES while I can. So I started looking around for info which lead me to this site. Nice site btw! As I wait for my ship to come in (read money) I'll be hanging around when I can and lusting after some of your collections. The time is near for my first home NG encounter and I'm so looking forward to the day!

I would recomend getting a MVS Cab, cause once you get the cabinet most of the games are ALOT cheaper than the AES releases. Thats what I did I bought a super neo 29 candy cab, MV-1C and KOF 2K2 from the neostore. :)

Thanks for the tips.

It's going to be the home cart system for me. It's always been the "best of the best" in my eyes, and that includes the next gen systems out now. Those 2D sprites are hard to beat, IMHO.

If I were to get a cab, something else I've always wanted, I think I'd go for something a bit more classic...i.e., Space Invaders, Pac Man, Galaga..etc..

However...it's not that I won't consider something like a phantom in the future wink

You could get an AES system, and get a Phantom-1 converter that allows to play MVS carts, but, they been known to have a lot of issues. Graphical issues with some games, not able to play bootlegs(bootlegs are illegal), to name a few. So, if you do get a Phatnom-1 get the newest version of it. But, you could get a MVS cab, if you have space and money for a cab, because the MVS carts are a hell of lot cheaper than the AES carts.

You won't be disappointed. Just don't pay $700 for it. You could get a whole arcade cab for less than that!

So what games are you interested in? Everyone knows what games they want when they first decide to buy a Neo. What does your wish list look like?

Well, don't cry over spilled milk. If you are the kind of person that counts every penny you spend, the Neo just isn't for you. Just be glad that you own a great piece of gaming history that not many people can say they own. Now for the games...

This was back when you could walk into Babbages (now known as Gamestop/Funcoland/Babbges) and buy a brand new system. They sold them I believe for somewhere in the $600-$700 range brand spanking new back then. What, some ten years ago or so? I've wanted one ever since, and soon I will finally have one.

I can't wait to fire up something from the Metal Slug series first.

And thanks to all for the warm welcome!

$700 for a new Neo Geo, ain't bad. But, that's good if you're a collector. But, if you're a gamer, get a unboxed one off here or Ebay.
