Ok let me say that I am new to the NEO GEO world so please dont flame me for this question.

I cant really afford to drop $500+ on some of these games like Metal Slug. My question is how are the fakes and where can I get them? I have read how to tell what is a fake but not much else.

I still very much want to buy the real games I can afford but I still want to play Metal Slug eventually.

Thanks Blackride.....

I think get a phantom1 converter which allows you to play mvs titles on your home system. The mvs carts are usually dirt cheap (cept for SNKvsCap) compared to their home version counterparts.

for example Metal slug mvs is around $40-50 as compared to the home cart that is currently going for $1200 on ebay. I think they are exactly the same game-play wise.

Of course just because mvs carts are cheaper doesnt exempt them from the bootleggers. The Metal Slug mvs cart I bought turned out to be a Bootlet. I'm trying to get it replaced with an original.

blackride,

Welcome to NG.com . The fake games (Conversions) that you speak of are forbidden on these forums. They can not be sold here. Also, if you post a wanted thread for them it will more than likely be deleted by a moderator. Not to mention, you will get harrassed by almost every member here. Instead of getting a home cart system, you ight want to go for a MVS/Supergun setup ( It allows you to play the MVS cartridges on your TV).

The Phantom-1 Converter is kind of iffy sometimes. There are times some MVS (even legit ones) will not work correctly with it. Although it is another option. MVS games are alot cheaper than the Home Carts if price is a factor for you. You can post a thread in the wanted forum about purchasing a Supergun. The Neo Store link on the left of your screen will take you to the sales section of NG.com where you can purchase a NEW 1 Slot MVS Board. Hope this was helpful.

kennyboy (ken perry jr) sells them. I think he is a trusted seller here. His email address is kpj@dc.rr.com

On this board I've read about 95% of the mvs carts are compatible with the phantom. I think you'd want to get the 3rd revision (newest) if thats the route you intend to take.

There are some that pop up on Ebay from time to time. as well as in the selling section of the boards. I think most of the ppl here are trustworthy (i've had good luck so far in my limited time here) but there are some scammer types so beware. I'd spend some time checking into ppls reps before dealing with them. Alot of ppl include a list of honorable ppl they have dealt with at the bottom of their posts + you can always ask if anyone wanted to vouch for someone you were about to deal with.

Ya, Kenny Boy is selling them for $300. Kenny Boy's a pretty good seller, he's pretty trustworthy. I got my old-style joystick from him for $40. So, I can recommend Kenny Boy.

If you're into conversions, about the only place you can find them these days, is on eBay. There are always several listed there. But like it was said earlier in this thread, you are better off going MVS, if price is the problem.
