I just got back from sunnyvale golfland yesterday, and they had SVC Chaos in a huge dynamo cabinet. I was wondering how many of you have been lucky enough to play this game yet, and what do you think about it?

personally, the game had solid animation, but a pretty bland color pallet. the engine is essentially KOF with added and deleted features. what suprised me about how it played was that super moves could be cancelled into other supers, sort of like c groove in cvs2. This is cool, and it makes big combos, but what worries me about this feature, is that when you combine it with the games dash cancel moves, what you have is a really easy set up for huge combos that take off one half to 3/4 life bar. Future chaos matches may prove to be very chaotic indeed.

The backgrounds were pretty boring, and my biggest gripe with the game was its lack of color. New sprites are well animated, and character portraits look pretty good.

Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting it, but my first impression of the game was rather laughable. Somebody picked Sagat (who had about twice the animation of his cvs2 verion by the way) and started using his standing light kick. his leg got almost twice as long for just this one move, and a group of about 10 people that migrated from the cvs2 machines just broke out in laughter. I couldn't help myself I laughed too.

Well thats what I thought about it, tell me what you all think.

Yeah I played SVC at Golfland too. I have to say I was pretty impressed overall. It seems like a lot of people are going to really nitpick this game without seeing any arcade competition first. My first gut reaction after seeing and playing some early comp is that this is a hell of a game.
The backgrounds and presentation don't blow you away the second you see the game, but everything is done very tastefully and low key. (reminds me of the old SF2 in some ways) Although some chara's like Hugo blow me away. I thought Garou had tight animation for a Neo game. Hugo looks pretty much like he does in SF3! No joke.
I noticed you said the game is not that colorful, but I think that cabinet's monitor is the reason. If you look close, any game would look dull on that monitor.
I didn't learn enough about the game system yet to really make any judgement calls. It's a lot like KOF for sure. Gameplay seems to have a nice flow, just need to get some more playing time to figure out the system. It's tough to experiment with cancels etc. when a good player is all over you. You have to focus more on just trying to get wins and having fun.
Bringing the Capcom guys into a KOF style game is definately really kick ass. SNK chara's in CVS and CVS2 seemed kind of lame and toned down compared with their KOF originals. This is like the total opposite of that. Guys like Guile and Balrog just seem more badass on the Neo than they were before. Guile's flat top is actually even more insane like a UFO landed on his head or something. The one on one thing is cool instead of more 3 on 3. Fights tended to be pretty long anyway (2 life bars per round).
Neo fans should really be looking forward to this game. Hopefully a lot more people play this because I found myself far more excited about it once I sat down to play it than I was when I first heard it was coming out. That's the sign of a good game to me. Another good sign is that there were some small crowds of people either watching or waiting for a chance to play. The Neo Geo lives on!

Anyone know any arcades in the St. Louis area with SVC? The last one I was in was Dave 'n Busters and they were sorely lacking in any Neo Geo cabs of any kind. It's been a few years tho.

I didn't play the game, I just sat back and watched. If you compare it to the games next to it (at Golfland Sunnyvale) the graphics are pretty bad. If you are looking at a 16-bit standpoint, the graphics are a bit disappointing, especially the backgrounds. They are not very vibrant or animated. Also, I hate that checker colored thing they do to blend 2 colors. Perhaps if the game wasn't on a huge moniter, it would look better.

Animation-wise, it's not as good as MoTW, but at least KoF quality.

yeah, you've really got to play a game in an arcade to get the true feel of it. beats the hell out of fighting the cpu. once people start learning more about the game, i have a feeling that were gonna see some crazy shit.
