Hello, I'd like to assemble some drawings and instructions to re-create or improve on a Neo cab. I don't want to waste my or your time, so If you are interested in making a replica cab, please respond. I will only do this if someone will use these instructions. I'll need some dimensions of a real cab from someone here on the forums. This will go towards a project in some engineering classes I'm taking and I'd really like to do this. However, I do not wish to make drawings for an inferior cab and want to make a sturdy, good-looking cab that will make people jealous.

What exactly is involved in making an arcade cabinet? I'm curious about it.

Well, I've been visting arcades locally for research and it seems particle board with a laminate veneer are the materials of choice for older cabs. The newer cabs like the candy are blown-molded plastic or injection-molded plastic. My favorite is of course, The older Neo cabs. I don't think it is difficult to make one, it's just that everytime I go and try to measure a machine, I get escorted to the door. I'm not sure if screws will hold the particle board together to a suitable level and pegs seem too expensive, so I really need more info.

So you want to make detailed instructions how to build a Neo cab replica from scratch?
That'll be damn cool since I'm highly interested in getting my own cab, but they are so damn expensive and hard to obtain here.
I'm highly interested in this stuff and if you'd make such instructions I'll use them!

Keep us informed about the status of this project :)

All I need is input from cab owners. I'd like to hear complaints and praises from owners. As before posted, the local arcade operators are on alert of my presence and the last few times I visited to measure a machine, I was escorted to the door. Basically, I need the measurements from existing cabs as I would make it biased towards taller players since I'm 6' 4".

It appears I'm not the first to consider this. I've stumbled across this site: <a href="http://home.austin.rr.com/shumate/unicade/cabinet.htm." target="_blank">http://home.austin.rr.com/shumate/unicade/cabinet.htm.</a> The only drawback is it's price: 1100$ is much higer that I anticipated (as always) and I'm not sure I could make a cheaper cabinet. I'll spend some time this weekend figuring.

That link doesn't appear to work. Try this one <a href="http://home.austin.rr.com/shumate/unicade/design.htm." target="_blank">http://home.austin.rr.com/shumate/unicade/design.htm.</a>

How about starting off small and design a housing for Arcade Monitors,Jamma boards and Joysticks.
Where do we find the exact paint color "red" used on the cabs. The proper joy panel layout, etc.

Magnaflux:
1100$ are just for the cab. You'll have to add another 700$ for the controls!!
That makes it a total of 1810$!!!

Your links don't work...I don' know why...try this link instead:

Yeah, and he's also running MAME. I don't agree with that. So almost 2000$ for a Neo cab (including MVS board). I think we can do cheaper and more ethical.

I guess the most expensive part in his project is the monitor.
I think in a few weeks when I've got some free time I'll try making my own cab.

Selfmade cab + MVS + selfmade-supergun + old TV :)

Should be less expensive, equal to a original cab (with some loss of quality in assembling *g*) and 100% legal :)

I hope that the Neo-cab owners will have supplied you with details until then so that I can make the cab a good remake.

Instead of going to arcades, see if there is an 'amusement' store by you that sells cabinets and stuff to dealers and the general public. OR call the arcade before you go up and try to set up a time so you can go in there (like just before closing) It would be kind of odd to one day be strolling through your property and see someone measuring out one of the cabinets. Tell them it's a project and it's for school, if anything whip out your school ID. It's helped me gain access to places I shouldn't be....

Wow, that's a wonderful idea. I don't exploit my school ID enough. Thanks!

Try this one buddy. I live in OKC as well. There's a place that sells arcades. I can't think of the name right now but I have it written down. I called and told them I was intersted in a Neo and they have a couple of em. He told me they could pull it out and I could look at it and what not. Just tell em your not sure where you could fit it in you tiny apartment (like mine) and ask if you could come check it out and take some measurements. The guy I talked to was real nice and didn't sound like he'd have a problem with something like that. I'll post back in a while when I can get the name of the place. Or PM me back.

I know a guy on the southside who has many arcade cabs. I'm lined up to buy one in the next three months after I finish paying for my braces. Perhaps I could contact him and get the dimensions from a machine he owns. Or buy one and use it as a template.
