Before I go back to playing, here's the scoop (US version):

+ Outstanding packing and insert (you already know that)
+/- Sound is better than I've ever seen on Neo in some places, but static/low quality in some places, high use of vocals with BGMs
+ Backgrounds are above average
+ Character concepts and moves are excellent
+++ Gameplay is outstanding, high fun factor :D
+ Final boss is Neo Geo approved ;)

--- But one big minus...
Menu options are very poor:
Practice mode is vs CPU only, not vs a dummy char
(possible simulated practice mode via debug?)
VS mode has a 10 second timer to pick fighters
You need to reset to get back to the menu from any mode, except between practice fights.

Overall: The menu problems don't override everything else, you're basically using AES options from 5 years ago. But there are not as many fighters here as a KOF, and the movelists are not as deep as KOF. If you are a fighting game fanatic who needs something new, get this, it will keep you for awhile. If only a moderate fighting game player, wait for KOF 2K2.

Edit: Personally, I was upset by the menu problems until I started actually playing the game. After 1 complete game, I think this stuff is pretty damn good!

Nice. I'd love to hear more about gameplay (speed, moves, balance) when you get back from playing more! Thanks!

Neojedi I have a question for you?

What does the English insert look like on the spine and on the back cover? Is it the ROTD logo or text like KOF 2K1. I ask this because I haven't seen an image of the whole insert.

One question, is it easy to learn the combo system?

First Impact and Team Duplex to be exact?

The 'First Impact' is too easy to learn, as the button you need to press appear on screen as soon as you hit your opponent...that's why they suck (that, and there's only one per character; two if you count the aerial one).

As for the Team Duplex; nothing special: QCF+BC, your character hits the opponent, then knocks them to far corner of the screen, THEN QCF+BC again and if you time it right, you're partner will come out and preceed with a varied whoop-ass beating.

A lot of the Team Duplex's suck and aren't even worth performing, but I'll leave it up for you guys to learn... <img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" />

WTF?!?!?! Please explain Neo Jedi... Maybe I missed something the first 20 times I played the game.

And please remember that "HIGH FUN FACTOR" has NO bearing on "EFFECTIVE AND IMPLIMENTATIONAL/DIVERSE FIGHTING ENGINE", but "CHEAP AI AND OVERSIMPLIFIED COMBOS AND SHITTY LAG" does.

If you can't tell already, I've had bad day at work and need some good stress right now...

The spine was 2K1 style, black text on a white background, but with a traditional Neo Geo logo. That seems to be Playmore-style now. The back was as good as the rest, I don't remember the specifics.

As True Warrior is hinting, there is little depth to the gaming system. This is not a KOF or a 5-course meal... if you hate games like The Last Blade and Samurai Shodown 4 because they aren't complex enough, then there might not be enough here for you.

I finally got a room full of ppl to play this the other night and everyone got into it right away. It's a fast-paced game with an easy feel to it. Mobility is high, but close combat occurs at around MOTW speed. The Duplex combo (HCF+BC) is difficult enough to land that it acts as a "spanking" of the person hit by it. The CD combo button display wasn't criticized at all, it allows people to play the game without having to memorize a meaningless chain. (ie ABCCD)

At this point, I see this as a great 2 player / party game, but I think that after winning it with every team and seeing the duplex combos, there's not much else for 1 player. You need some people to game with or it's not worth it.

Well after hearing what you had to say about the game, I cant wait! Get mine later this week from NCS. And True Warrior, everybody has different tastes and many people like myself dont get the pleasure of playing Neo games in an arcade so we have to wait for the home relese. I am sure it is not a KOF game by any means, but it sounds incredibly fun so far and looks pretty good. :D
