SNK and thier console

I love SNK and all, but I've always had a question. Why is SNK using such old hardware? I mean don't get me wrong, I think games such as Metal Slug 3 are a testament to what 16-bit can do. It's a cool idea that they put the RAM In the cart so as to give the game more power. Even with all the great SNK could have made a newer system.

Yes of course i know about all of thier cd systems (with load times that make a PS1 look like a speed demon), but why didn't they ever make a new one. especially with the way that memory and RAM prices have gone down it would be much easier.

Also this would give more people the chnace to have the exposer to SNK games. With a new system at a lower cost with cd games, now people could buy it and it wouldn't be so freaking hard to get the SNK gaming.

Even if SNK didn't wanna make a system, they should have at least used oine of these next-gen systems as thier flagship for thier titles and made a butt-load of money. Oh but what was I thinking, no one wants to play Metal Slug 3, stupid me, man you are so smart SNK and Playmore. No one would like Metal Slug 3

The home console is only an extension of the MVS hardware, SNK's bread and butter (before they finally starved). SNK supported the popular MVS hardware because arcade operators loved the idea of swapping carts to change games instead of a whole cab.

Since this system is still popular today, it's the only reason that the AES exists. If not for MVS, there would be no AES.

The home system is not a dedicated home console like most others. It simply SNK's arcade hardware, home version.

Well, developing, rolling out and marketing home video game hardware is EXPENSIVE. Companies LOSE money on each hardware unit they sell. Look what happened to Sega...they HAD to get out of the hardware market and go software only in order to stay solvent.

SNK probably did not have the money and resources to build/develop/improve any future hardware after their failed Hyper64 and money-draining home system divisions. That is why they stayed with the MVS/AES...there was more of an established user base and the hardware was finished, so they could focus on making good games.

It's not like they could just go and improve the CD systems just because the RAM prices dropped. It doesn't work that way.

The console Neo Geo and his carts are exclusive (and its players also) no other console has been able to maintain by so many years in the market, although SNK develops a console so that their games are but cheap it did not work, Neo Geo CD is dead, that is proof. 16 bit and 2D are the secret ingredients.

I don't fully agree with your statement, but I reckon they should've made the NGCD up to par with PSX and Saturn by adding the polygon stuff.

Never understood why the NGCD cost so much more than PSX when it came out, but hey, they're worth alot more nowdays.
