Would you pay for it?

I did this topic 'cause I know bandwidth is really expensive, so I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about it... NO BASHING OR TROLLING!!!

If it was a small amount like $5-$10, I would consider it.

Why? Because the level of information, tips, and advice regarding Neo Geo I've received here since I joined has been immensely valuable to me. Plus, I've made quite a few good deals on these boards with like-minded Neo gamers who KNOW the Neo Geo scene which has helped me build my Neo Geo collection quickly and relatively inexpensively.

And another thing to consider, if there is a charge to use the forums, you'll eliminate 95% of the trolls and spammers. Only those who are seriously interested in Neo Geo will pay and frequent the forums.

There's also the danger that many of the regulars will not want to pay the fee (if there is one) and will simply drop off and avoid coming here at all which would could also be detrimental to a fee structure. But all in all, I think it's a good idea seeing how there are people with multiple accounts or those who simply sign on to post some spam or come in and offer some scam deals (which we've been seeing quite a lot of lately...)

Advertisements in the form of banners would alleviate some of the financial burden of running this site..but when you accept financial support from third parties you are giving them some influence over what goes on around here..you end up with the EVERYBODY's A BOSS syndrome and this could be quite messy...

On one hand, it would be stupid. You can talk video games anywhere. If there was a charge, many may leave... But where would we discuss the Neo? WELL, since so many would leave, they'd gather someplace else.

On the other hand, if it was like $20 for a year, I could see paying it. I would only hope that others would do so, to make paying worth while. This would also keep those assholes that make multi-accounts away, and keep others (like cheap roms users) out as well.

It's a really interesting idea. I would do it if I could send the money via paypal once a year. 5-10 bucks. Hey, we really do have a great marketplace here...that alone seems worth it to me.

Yes something in between the $10-$20 a year would be good. It would keep trolls away, and so a bunch of newbies idiots offering slugs and Kizunas for $2,000 cash only!!! and mainly will help to support the site's bandwidth.

This site is TOPPS with me but if it shut down tomorrow,all the info,tips and good information would scatter thrughout the internet to various sites specializing in different areas like it once did before.
Of course this would'nt happen right away... a regrouping period would take place..
Nothing can compete with FREE and there are many other alternatives..
If the whole internet charged $$ just to visit websites/forums...
There would be very few sites and a rapid declining internet community because people DEMAND the best when it comes to removing $$$ from their wallets and rightfully so..

I would pay too. It would certainly turn a lot of people away, but maybe we wouldn't get so many scammers either. In any case, I don't think it will ever become a pay site because I *believe* the site is intended to draw potential customers for the neostore.

As someone pointed out, the best way to support this site is to buy the games at the neostore. I'm doing my part

. I've spent quite a bit here.
