Here we go with our good friend Tarma explaining us why better pick up US version of home carts, esp if you like the game.

"As I've always been into collecting Jap carts, you do sometimes miss out on a few descriptive things in the manual....
So a few Metal Slug questions that perhaps some of you could answer...

1) What is with the baby in Metal Slug 2/X on the first stage?

2) What's the story with the baboon in MS 2/X?

3) What actually happened in level 2 of Slug 3?

4) What's with the guy in the glasses and suit in Slug 3?

5) What is the story with the little monkey with the uzi?

6) Finally (now I used to konow this but forgot) what is the name of the big bloke with machine gun that you meet in all the Slugs? (y'know he gets eaten by a whale in 2/X)

What's the general story line of 3 supposed to be as well?"

It is just plain why US carts rule in the english collector market.

Support the neo store and get kof 2001 US VERSION!

Nonetheless, many picked up the jap version just to ignore happily all.

yea, i'm a newbie, but what do carts that have to do with which version of the AES (US or JAP) you own, cant you just only buy US cart for the english instructions. Again, i'm kinda stupid, so if i just said something that's obvious to everyone but me...someone tell me, ok

kernow: good point...I totally agree with you ;)

honestly...I really prefer the JP carts over the US/Euro carts, cause the artwork is much better. I never really read a manual..no matter what system for....yeah...maybe I missed alot of story but so what? As long as I can have fun with the game it's ok for me :)

I have always thought about that kind of stuff as well...

I really have questions about the KOF series....like what the fuck is NESTS????????

I wish that we could have a section on this site dedicated to the story lines of all neo geo games...

Sometimes, it is better not to read SNK's writing, since they often spell words wrong too.

Words like "manipulate" they spell "maniqulate." Pretty funny stuff.

The story line though does interest me.

Props for both formats. Japanese for art, English for story. Both playable.

I don't see why you guys like JP releases better for artwork. In recent releases (Garou, Metal Slug 3, KoF 99), the artwork is the same.

Some older releases have different artwork, but there is little difference (League Bowling)

I agree, it is nice to know what's going on in some games story wise (KoF, for example)

Yeah, the same piece of artwork, but it is scaled down in size to make room for the ugly ass border.

Many of my friends choose between US and Jap depending on each game's art. For example, Garou is best looking in US, Last Blade 2 is better in jap etc.

Most important thing is to love the games, and not confusing "collector" and "golden boy". When you read some of the posts in selling or wanted sections, it's more like NYSE than a fan spot...

See Ya Neo Fans!

I'm sorry Simone. I am really sorry you feel that way. Here I thought we had a different understanding.

You know how it is. If you shoot your mouth off with some rude comments, I'll be here to confront you on it. :)

You didn't say anything rude and you presented a good arguement why people should buy the U.S. Version of KoF 2K1 but, You forgot to mention that Shawn also has Japanese copies of the same game in his store so tell me why I shouldn't buy a Japanese version from Shawn direct?

I mean it's supporting the Neo Store buying it from Shawn........right?

Well Simone,
I'm still waiting for my answer.

If I buy a brand new copy of KoF 2K1 Japanese from Shawn in the Neo Store, Am I or am I not supporting Shawn? :D

Better yet I'll go a step further.

Anyone can answer this if they want.

Does a person buying a new Neo game be it Japanese or English from Shawn in the Neo Store would be considered supporting the Neo Store? ;)

I await everyone's spine tingling answers... :D

In my opinion: Yes, becasue he would be getting his money back on the purchase. If you bought it from NCSX (something like that) then you would be supporting them becasue They got the money back from your purchase. Which in turn gives them the money to buy more games, systems, etc etc

Its topics like these that makes the US carts skyrocket. not that its wrong,
But if you want a more complete aes collection, go for the Jap, you have alot more choices and options.

You know even tho we have bumped heads awhile back, I have to compliment you on your outlook of this discussion.

It rings true that there are more Japanese AES carts than U.S. ones.

U.S. inserts, manuals, and stickers are more for collectors or people who want to have a more uniform collection which in all honesty I understand.

It's not my cup of tea personally but I won't knock anyone for how their AES collection looks. That's just being an asshole. :D

... and the debate rages on. I have been reading your debate with FTL for the past month, and I find it quite amusing. :D You raise some very good points, Bonuskun. No matter which version you choose to purchase -- be it English or Japanese -- you are supporting the Neostore as long as you buy it from Shawn. However, after dissecting FTL's post(s)and giving it some thought, I'd say that FTL has a point, if not a moot one. Shawn has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars on KOF2K1 (i.e. this includes the insert, manual, and cart label -- something we all knew already) and buying this cartridge would, for the most part, guarantee future releases for the North America market. I'm sure you already knew where FTL was going with his comment -- and I'm sure you're following his progress on the board just to irritate him -- but it seems like FTL could careless about your opinion, even though you've been there at every turn to remind him of his mistakes.

So in short, I believe you and FTL both have valid points. FTL shouldn't condemn people for wanting the Japanese version, though.

The right picture of the situation can be gotten when you see many jap collectors saying all US carts are crap and claiming they will buy kof 2001 jap from NCS AS ALWAYS.

More support for the neo store, jap or US version doesn't matter, more JAP and US home cart.

More, persons who stick with such an attitude claim new home cart releases!

I have already explained how fans and new businessmen will play a role in the future neo geo market.
