I just got back in town awhile ago so I still have it fresh in my mind of how much of a great time I had.
Originally we had planned this get together between ourselves and a group of friends. I've spoken and talked with BB is person so meeting him and discussing the Neo was something we didn't talk about too much expect for a key few select times.
We ended up having BBQ Steak and as Lee's wife said, BB an awesome cook but, you really do cook for an army.
I guess the main thing I enjoyed was the company but it felt kinda bad that I was the only real Hardcore Neo fan that made it considering quite a few people backed out at the last minute or had to work.
1st thing I had the pleasure of seeing was BB's AES & MVS collection of games. Now I've seen most of these titles before spread out but, To see so many rare and great games in one place was something that choked the ole heartstrings in me.
He didn't make much of it but for me to hold a Japanese copy of Nam1975 was a treat indeed.
Also looking at Legend of Success joe in AES format made me realize that only a collector or fan of the series would actually enjoy this piece.
There were many rare titles I finally had the pleasure of looking at in original Unbootlegged format. Off the top of my head Overtop, Neo Mr.Do, Super Dodge Ball, Kinuza Tag Battle, Magical Drop II & III were nice to see in untampered forms.
Also looked over The SuperSpy beta cart. I guess the main thing I can say about this seeing as the game is overall the same by my guess was that this cart weighed a lot more then the final AES version.
I should also note he's got a cool cat seeing as I like animals and his dog is very friendly and very jumpy as well but I didn't mind.
The collection of original SNK stuff I saw was something of a treat to me as well. I had some of these items but, he blew me away with his resin kits, posters, and original SNK promotional material that I looked over.
He also had some original framed posters like RB2, KoF '98 among others. The art books and gamest mooks were also something that I enjoyed looking over as well.
One thing about BB and his Huge collection of Neo stuff is that I feel he's humble about what he has.
Not once did he brag or try to play it off as being a Neo*Geo collectable whore unlike Chris Ray who jerks off to his collection in a New York minute. That alone gave me more respect for BB than most people I've known and met for years..
We ended up playing on his Arcade cab and he really knew his game on a lot of titles we rotated through. I played a few of his other friends and Phil competed a few times himself showing his 1337 prowess on his cab.
For some off reason the night turned into a few people who ended up playing Sonic Shuffle and I watched it somewhat with the realization that I need to pick up this title for Dreamcast.
It's a great party game and when you have company over who loves games, You'll find that this one can make it fun.
Me & BB stayed up really, really, late last night hanging outside his backyard and simply talked about the Neo, the people in it and shared some very interesting & I daresay enlightening conversations.
He did show me a Samurai Spirits anime that involved Shiki and other characters from the Hyper64 game. After I half ass translated it seeing as it wasn't subbed, I conculded this run was a shitload better than the original Samurai Spirits anime I saw years ago.
I personally agreed with him that this one should be officially released seeing as the budget and animation quality was a shitload better than before.
There were many things we discussed and I don't feel like jumping into those details but, we did take a tour of Houston *for my sake* and I finally got to check out Planet Anime after all these years.
In as far as Anime goods the shop was nice but, I still felt somewhat let down and was kinda taken aback on some of their prices.
I.E. A Japanese Wild Ambition for PS was about 65 bucks.
We toured around a bit more. Stopped at a diner, ate and discussed a few more things about Neo and life in general.
After we went back to his place one more time, we fired up Garou and I took rounds fighting one of his friends at that and KoF2K.
As always I am BonusKun and you have a lot to learn before you beat me at one of my favorite Neo games.
There was a lot more we did but I'll probably go into more details when I'm more awake.
I just wanted to say right here and now Big Bruno is truly a great guy and to meet a Neo fan like him was something I honestly will never forget. I really wish there were more like him in the scene.....
P.S. I could say that if anything was really a let down, It would be not meeting up with nick_th_fury like I wanted to.
Well Here's hoping we can do it again next time and Nick, You'd better show up this time.
