I've got a guy in Japan that wants to sell me Blazing Star (I know it's real/mint and the guy's got a good rep) for $750. Now we all agree that it's a lot of money for a game, but getting beyond that, is the price for that particular title a good one?

Now I have been told that BS is, for the money, well, just BS...

The questions:

#1 Is $750 a fair price (quality of fun aside)?

#2. For the money is it worth getting from a fun factor perspective?

I play my games and do not sit and look at them, so it's got to be good. And I already own EVERY other shooter on the system.

£750 is too much money for any game in my opinion.

Think of the starving children.

Thank you for the answer to my question(s).

It's good to get the information I asked for.

Now that that is out of the way, can SOMEONE ELSE answer the other questions in my original post, they are:

#2. For the money is it worth getting from a fun factor perspective?

> $200 is alot of money for any videogame. Period.

But its all a matter of if a game is worth it to you.

Many of us buy these games, expensive ones or not knowing or relying on the fact that many of these games will hold their value. The rare games, if demand is there will inflate. The rest will fall.

Most of the shooters are expensive yet quite a few of the brawlers and fighting games are cheap.

Supply vs demand. Always.

Hi Rimm,

1. From what I've seen, that's sort of an average price - not bad but not great either. To me it would really depend on your confidence in the seller's ability to deliver a mint cart. It's a pretty damned rare title, and if he could really get you a MINT copy (I wouldn't pay that price for near mint), then it might well be worth it from a collector's perspective.
From a player's perspective, well ... they'd probably say that they could get the MVS cart for 70 bucks or whatever and that of course it's not worth it. It depends on your mindset. Personally, I enjoy the collecting aspect of it, so if I had the dough I'd probably go for it.

2. I've heard almost unanimous agreement that BS is the best shooter on the Neo. People complain a lot about Pulstar's difficulty, and usually say that BS is a much more playable game. I think they're both great shooters, but BS is definitely the less frustrating of the two. It just plays based more on raw skill and reaction speed (which I think is the trademark of a good shooter).
So, in reality, is playing this game really worth 750 bucks? No, probably not to the average consumer. But then, how many Neo gamers are the average consumers? It's the collectability / exclusivity that you're paying for, and the special charm and satisfaction that comes from owning uniquely fun Neo products.

Hope my opinions provide a little insight.

That's kinda pricey, but, hey, Blazing Star is an expensive game to buy. But, the game is a very good shooting game, perhaps the best on the Neo. I think $400 is more reasonable price for it, tho. $750 is a bit much, but, I think you should download the rom and try it out before you buy the game. It would be a bitch, to buy a game for $700 and not like it. But, you should try out it on an emulator MAME or Kawaks, to see for yourself, because everyone has different opinons, likes and dislikes.

Anyone willing to place bets on who will mention the "C" word first?
Just buy the conversion, Blazing Star is a fun game but its not worth $750.00. spock

Truthfully how many times can you play that game, its very easy to beat. Otherwise just get a used Phantom and the MVS for around $200.00.

I got 500 on me

Conversion!

I guess I'll collect from myself...

Anyway seems I usually see Blazing Star's go for less than that. Maybe my memory is just off Price Guide says 600-700, but if its truly mint than 750 is probobly an ok price.

Before you spend that though have you played the game at all? Some people here hate it and although I don't know why, I know the last boss is a joke. Although the game is supposed to be easier than Pulstar. Oh well I'm thinking that if you're even considering spending that on a cart, then you aren't starving for table scraps.

Ultimately its your choice man.

Edit: Damn if I didn't take so much time typing Robert Wallace wouldn't have beat me :p Now I have to pay out 500 bucks to someone...

This is a GREAT game, and $750 for a mint copy sounds about right.
The pluses are because you can chain combos on enemies, the replay is good for always trying to beat your highest combo numbers.
But the one down side to a $750 shooter is it only has 7 levels, and unlike Pulstar which starts you over at the beginning of the area in which you died,BS allows you to just keep playing. So you can beat the game in about 15 minutes or so EVERY TIME!
Just something to think about

if you have $750 for a game, why not spend$40 more and buy the mvs first.then buy the cart if you like it.or just buy the game.rare carts are good for holding their value.i had to sell all my carts to buy a car.

neo geo=money in the bank
except you get to have fun with it

Videogames are never a good investment, I think they are designed just to be played, like videogames, funnily enough.

Blazing Star is shit. It's worth maybe $35 tops. I made the mistake of buying it on mvs and regretted spending that kind of money on a half assed piece of shit.

Fuck you Yumekobo.

IMO this price is the about the maximum you should pay for that game in totally MINT, PROVIDED you want it BADLY.

The game is hard to find, that’s for sure, but if you are patient you may have a better deal.

For a better reference: I got my copy, which is in really GREAT collectors shape, most would say mint, for $650, which included EMS shipping ($25) and Paypal fees.

Note that the seller was located in USA not in Japan like yours, where you can get Neo items for less.

If I were in your position I would not buy it.

From the fun factor perspective, no Neo Geo game that is worth that amount of money, the game is very good, but if you just want to play it MVS is the way to go.

Hope that helps.

A1: $750 is a ball park if that price includes EMS shipping. If that is just the base price try to haggle him down. Really low ball him, like $550 or $575 and see what happens.

A2: Blazing Star is an EXCELLENT game IMO, but is it worth that kind of price tag, no. I mean if you have the means to afford it and are hardcore collector, then go for it. If your mostly in it for the game play go get a phantom-1 and the MVS version, which should total no more than $350 and that is MAYBE a reasonable price for Blazing Star.

Anyways, I'm a poor college student so my budget for Neo games is limited (ie $325 or less), but hey if really had the means (hopefully when I get that degree :D ), I'd pick it for the gameplay and collections sake.
