Does anyone know approximately how many of those ultra rare AES games were produced? Games like Metal Slug, Neo Turf Masters, Ninja Masters, Double Dragon, and Kizuna Encounter always seem to go for $1500+ because they're so rare. I'm curious as to exactly how many were produced, and why the volumes were so low.

i am talking aes here.

all of those were full productioin games. snk;s biggest title ever was samurai shodown 2, they did 70,000 pieces!

the current titles are 500 at a time.

i know that up until '94/'95 the rarest neo game was viewponit with a run of 1,500 pieces.

i think the main thing is that the people that own them are not selling them.

hope that helps a bit.

I wouldn't consider Metal Slug rare, just expensive. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen that game for sale. If you've got the cash, it's not hard to get hold of.

I agree with you. The are 2 NG rare carts: Kizuna EURO and Ultimate 11 EURO. Everything else it's just expensive not rare at all.

but do you know that for a fact? You can't just say those two games are the only rare ones and everything else is not rare at all just like that. Do you know the production run of these games. I'm not saying that they are rare, but I won't make a general statement without hard facts.
Plus the reasons these games are expensive are severall, but one is definetly demand, therefore the expense is relative to what people are prepared to pay. To say that something is expensive entails that it is unfairly priced and though the retro game market - specifically Neo Geo market - is crazy, it is by no means the case that games are unfairly priced in general. There is a definitive mutual agreement between most members of this site that the prices are fair even though they are high.
I just find it wierd when people make general statements like they know beyond doubt that what they say is the truth, without a drop of arrogance or pretention. 'Tiss all

I just did a quick search at yahoo japan auctions and found 2 pulstars 1 twinkle stars sprites and a Waku Waku 7. If I keep looking I would found more of the so called rare carts.

US and EURo releases it's another matter. They were less produced than the J releases and they were distributed around the world. That's why they are scarce.

"Rare" is a relative term.

If a company made 100 widgets, and only 3 people had one each, it is not a rare item.

If a company made 100 widgets, and 97 had one each, then yes I would consider that a rare item.

If SS2's manufactured qty was 70,000 and 69,900 had owners already, it would appear to be a rare item only if owners refused to sell their copies. Nobody would know the wiser that there are that many copies out, so in disguise, one can be fooled into thinking that SS2 is rare but we know that it is not.

Its all relative I think.
